Now that Trump is in power and is practically guaranteed to become unpopular again, there is ample room for that to happen and for the Republicans to be banished again in 26 and 28. Every ounce of this take is extremely bereft of historical understanding. The Democrats will not embrace populism to win elections because they are fundamentally an anti-populist status quo party that loves their establishment and just fully re-elected their exact same failed leadership structure in both the House and Senate UNANIMOUSLY. It's also a mistake to assume that Donald Trump will be unpopular in two years when right this very moment, he is currently more popular than he's ever been. Meanwhile Joe Biden, the outgoing lame duck, is barely more popular than Trump was after he attempted to foment a coup. Frankly, his approval rating should be in the single digits where they deserve to be, but whatever.

The only good thing they have going for them at the moment is that Trump/Republicans are almost certainly going to expose their corruption in year one.
