Seems like that they have been a troll this whole time. Which honestly isn't too shocking in hindsight.

Unless they are originally from Australia and live in Georgia. But the post doesn't read that way

No, I misunderstood what they wrote, they are referring to someone else as an Australian, not themselves

Uhhhhh, no. I was referring to the Aussie who briefly changed their user name to Harriser to stan for a politician that would never ever represent them, not myself.

I can assure you, I've never stepped foot in the Land Down Under. :)

Basically the lesson here is that no elected official in America is going to garner sympathy by taking "personal time".  Having Harris' niece post a single candid photo the week after of her at home hanging with the younger nieces and nephews and children was probably the smarter move, especially since people already resent Harris less than Clinton. But vanishing away for weeks just opens someone up for massively negative criticism.

There's a reason why public officials don't share photos of them vacationing and out with family. It's akin to violently shaking the cage Americans are kept in.

(Most non-Americans don't realize tens of millions of American workers don't have any legal protections for having federal holidays off as no state is mandated by the fed to do so, and so the average low-income employee is actually much closer to what amounts to 0 guaranteed paid days off).

And why such is always associated negatively with said politician's career:

Harris clearly said screw you Chuck and your appointments, though maybe not as bluntly.

The K-Hive says just as well, progressives say **** you, neolibs shrug and move on to the next room.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

If she tries to run for Governor I doubt it'll come up except briefly in the primary.

Honestly I don't see her staying in D.C. Very different vibes from those that lost in the past - I could picture her getting into the private sector or lobbying work.

Messing around with cook political, I'm not sure how Trump didn't increase both his margins & turnout with White Non College. Unless the Hispanic electorate is that much bigger this year

+1 for Kamala College Educated White voters

+2 for Trump noncollege Educated White Voters + increased turnout share

+8 Trump with Hispanic voters, decreased turnout

+3 Trump with Black voters, decreased turnout

+8 Trump with Asian Voters,  decreased turnout

....do some of you know how many days out of the year members of Congress actually work? That the average total work days for a member of Congress is half of that for your average American worker? This being important because Harris' role as the VP makes her the president of the Senate and a key tie-breaker vote.

This is what I meant previously that commentary about America from those who have never experienced the reality of being American is often... pointless.

It reminds me of a tweet I saw recently emphasizing the importance of how populism is just not economic policy, but it encapsulates... anger, resentment. That populism is a movement born from economic tension and social disruption due to worsening and worsening economic conditions.

That of course someone from Australia can't accurately diagnose American societal anger bubbling up to the surface due to worsening economic conditions (and thus right-wing populism taking foot) and so instead argues that Americans are just inherently conservative, because they don't actually know what it's like to live with those conditions.

It's the most non-American thing one can do to yell at Americans that they're not being nice enough to elected officials for their "work" as "workers".

Yelling at people to respect Kamala's right to take PTO while likely not knowing what (lack of) legal guarantees the average American workers has to sick leave & time-off. :deadbanana2: The average America would put your average Congressmen into a labor camp if they could. Earn that damn salary!

The problem with this argument is it supposes that where I live is some magical place immune to social/economic problems and thus I'm incapable of understanding what's going on in America. Australia has many, many of its own issues, plenty of poor folks and some issues that are specific to us and worse here even than what exists over in the US. I work in a school that mainly serves a local community who are public housing residents - refugee families, a lot of people from trauma backgrounds. I'm not that well off myself, though I do okay living a modest life in a 1 bedroom apartment.

The suggestion that I can't understand or comprehend American issues just because I'm Australian - and thus supposedly wildly more privleged than all Americans to the point where it's giving ivory tower - is nothing more than a cynical ploy to avoid actually having to contend with my criticisms of your particular brand of leftism. Even though my posts consistently get support from American users. It ignores the existence of a little thing called empathy and the ability of people to read. I know that Americans don't have legally enshrined leave entitlements. You can make your argument about literally anything to dissuade anyone from saying anything about somewhere they don't live.

And also, the trends that exist in the US are occuring everywhere in the developed world. Anger at the establishment, a movement towards right-wing politics among men, regression of acceptance of LGBT people, low trust in institutions. These are things to be concerned about for eveyrone and not some unique problem yall face. Nevermind the fact that the actual economic numbers do not bear out this narrative that Americans are wildly disadvantaged in comparison to residents of other Western democracies, the issues are just a bit different.

KHive is basically having their own accelerationist phase right now. Their stance basically amounts to "Well, this is what the country asked for, so why should we save the country from themselves by rocketing through judicial nominations? Let them have the total ruin that they voted for."

I mean, I can sympathize to an extent. But when your entire campaign message was "I'm running against literal Hitler!" It rings… kind of hollow when your only response to said Hitler figure winning is basically a Star Wars prequel meme: lamenting that democracy is dying with thunderous applause :gaycat6:

Some of these discussions are teetering further into straight up xenophobia at anyone who isn't American adding their perspective.

The history is long between @Communion and @Harrier on this thread and on this forum.

I would not prop up any of their exchanges in support of this argument.

If you have others to provide that aren't MAGA trolls from Eastern Europe be my guest. :coffee2:
