In cold, desolate Russia, what could the citizens want in life? Creature comforts, a big bag of money to make the cold, dark days less miserable. They didn't need war propaganda because soldiers are motivated by offering a condo, a new car and a bag of money. Losing a son isn't a problem if you throw enough Rubles at the mother. In poorer societies, children are an economic resource and a tradable commodity the parents could sell in bad times. It's telling that the Russian army is filled with minorities and provincial poors who are looting frying pans, children's toys, underwear, toilets, washing machines,...
