I think yes but they’re an investment firm, all costs of production will be on them + marketing and retail deals.

I'm not even a swiftie so all that BS about "hiding her dirty laundry" as you've said literally 100 times, is dumb and not the point. The point is: nobody really cares. Since Shamrock only bought the masters (and not the label), I imagine they’d also end up needing to work with a record label to handle production, distribution, etc. There’s no way it’s worth any of the hassle and cost to do that in comparison to the bad press any label would get for playing along + minimal sales since Swifties largely wouldn’t support them.

 

I think all these investment companies (as in Hipgnosis etc) are purely focusing on making passive income by purchasing catalogues. They have a perpetual income stream from streaming without having to lift a finger, and they make money when hit songs are licensed to commercials etc. I think there’s also a big financial incentive with how many songs are straight-up recycling old songs right now (Super Freak, Glamorous, etc). If they own any of those older songs, they get income from the old song and the brand new hit.

I blasted Cruel Summer in this guys car on our way to his place and it sounds SOOOO good coming out of the speakers yall...i'm afraid it would ACTUALLY slay on radio...but at the same time I dont want her to just axe the Midnights era for a 4 year old song...

that said Cruel Summer is just smashing on another level...Maybe she can consider giving it an animated music video at the very least just so it can have a cute moment but keep Karma as the radio single

Someone smart should make a research about the "coincidence" of big companies/funds buying music catalogs and the amount of samples we are seeing right now in pop music.
