Jack! Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) Yeah I'm not seeing it until the 7th, my cinema didn't have any early screenings (that I'm aware of - sometimes they'll do early screenings of new movies but they market them as either Screen Unseen or Scream Unseen if it's a horror movie, so it's a hit or miss that the early screening is gonna be what you want and I didn't check for one earlier this week ) and I don't have time to fit it in before then. I won't feel guilty if it's not good though, I pay for unlimited so it's kinda like seeing it for free I guess. Edited October 2 by Jack! 1
Denim Posted October 2 Posted October 2 WOW. Makes TOTAL sense that they promoted Gaga as a co-lead if all of you (+ critics) are saying that she's the best part of it and even more sense that they didn't promote the musical aspect if they really did make everyone watching bored or frustrated.

Dämon Posted October 2 Posted October 2 1 minute ago, Badgalbriel said: yeah, same. People were very upset about every musical scene. You could hear their complaints So interesting cause there wasn't anything like that at my theatre On exiting the room I heard people say that they were afraid at first and then got into the musical stuff. so divisive. It's like the ARTPOP of Gaga's filmography I guess 1

It feels like a waste of my time if Gaga is barely in it, that's the only reason I wanted to go. I can relate, sis Gucci was panned too but Gaga had more screentime and her role was more solid at least
Denim Posted October 2 Posted October 2 ...and these bad reviews/lack of gaga in the movie makes sense why she's pivoting to the Harlequin Album & LG7 before the movie even comes out.. Her team is taking the good out of the Joker 2 (eyeballs on her) and applying it to other projects, probably the smartest move rather than letting all her PR stick around the movie being (allegedly) bad (still haven't seen it myself but... yeah...) I thought it was SO weird that she talked about her music career, LG7, and her secret project for the majority of her JFAD press, but now it seems incredibly clear that it was a tactical move (and a good one at that) 7

Denim don't do this. ZONT ZO ZIS. You are one of the cutest members in this fan base. Don't send out subminimals with cupake stan talking points It's never a good idea to lie to the audiences. They should have been forthright with the fact that it was a musical and that Gaga was NOT a co lead tbh. It would have quelled everyone's expectations and make it seem like Todd and the studio stood by his vision. 1
Dämon Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Also I'm sorry but Spoiler Lee announcing she's pregnant and then the movie never addressing it again? Why would they drop that and then just not anything with it they could have cut that line and the movie would have been the same so I'm utterly confused by it 2
Badgalbriel Posted October 2 Posted October 2 My boyfriend didn't like it, but I thought it was much better than what the media is portraying. 1

I would've said to have me as a smaller name with the others if you're going to cut me down like that. It's a bait and switch. She's Lady Gaga. Even Machete Kills featured her in the trailers. 2

No one walked out and no one used their phones during the movie so I'm guessing most of the people somewhat enjoyed it?
Bhabylon Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I just know the audience I watch it with will be groaning whenever a song starts 3

Long term its a TERRIBLE idea and only makes people more angry and lose trust with everyone involved, though having the audience "want more Gaga" is at least decent PR for her... but still sucks that it's due to misleading marketing. I do fear that Gaga's track record for movie projects is mid, I think she should take on a few, well written niche films where she's actively the lead next and recourse her acting her career if that's what she wants. I kinda see her pivoting back to focusing on music though, judging by how motivated she seems by music rn 5
EnigmaticAndroid Posted October 2 Posted October 2 All those cut scenes that served TABS only for the film to be a dud without her. We demand the Godga Cut! 4 1

Here's to hopefully like a movie every two years and a couple mini series here and there and stuff! But like u said...she seems exceptionally musically inspired tbh. I havnt seen her perform with so much passion as she did on Kimmel in such a long time. And the world building around the Harlequin album is really cute + whatever she has planned for LG7 too! it's exciting 2

Lee wasn't "needed", but was just "added," if that makes sense. But maybe it's just me, I really hated how Todd wrote his Harley

Bhabylon Posted October 2 Posted October 2 so wait, you're telling me Spoiler Gaga climbed up and down all those stairs for nothing? Mess 3
Denim Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I just hope the next gaga movie isn't "the movie sucked, but at least Gaga was good in it! ASIB is solid, I liked it a lot, but it is a remake unfortunately. Not that that takes toooo much away from it, but I would love for gaga to have an uncontested GREAT movie in her discography with a cool unique character 8
Baby Judas Posted October 2 Posted October 2 That's literally my worst fear of the movie, the musical parts. Idk, but I'm not really into musical films, literally the worst film genre ever. Like, I don't really know what they're thinking when they've decided to make it a musical. Is it because Gaga is in it? or they already had plans to make it a musical before Gaga joined? Like wtf, why? 1
