Post Malone struggling to release a hit. Why?

It's been over 2 and a half years since Post Malone released his last multi-platinum album Hollywood's Bleeding.

After this much time off, the world expected 2010s hitmaker Post Malone to come back with a vengeance, setting fire to the charts like he once used to.

In July, his new era began with the LEAD SINGLE from his upcoming album:

Motley Crew

175M on Spotify

Certifications: None

#22 peak on Top 40 Radio

Panned

FLOP!

Uh oh... :sherlock:

Scrambling to find a hit, Post called up The Weeknd for a surefire pop smash. This little slip-up could surely be swept under the rug, right?

...

One Right Now

135M on Spotify

Top 10 in 5 countries

Certifications: None

#12 peak on Pop radio (radio deal) and already falling

Panned and ignored

FLOP!

It's been quiet for Austin "Post" Malone since these back to back duds. He is currently 0/2 in his comeback era.

After two years without new music, you'd expect the mega-popular "rapper" to have garnered enough hype to release instant smashes like he did in 2016-2019.

He just can't seem to find a hit :cries: Why?

Motley Crew is SUCH a fun song I love it! I guess people are waiting for an ANTHEM from him like Better Now

But yeah I think its just a question of quality honestly. The material he released was terrible and not even his biggest fans used it past the first week or two. He's still a monster and he's gonna snatch another smash with the right song. We need another Circles

Bad songs. One Right Now even sounds like a demo.

kind of shocked that he’s been seemingly left in the 2010s

I'd rather have quality anyway

I heard there's a new Spider-Verse movie, maybe he can leech off of it's success to snatch a hit :jonny:

OT: The songs just aren't good. Motely Crew is just....bad and OUT Right Now is painfully generic. A shame because I actually liked some of his music. :gaycat6: He needs to release something good like Circles or the 4th album curse will inevitably get to him.

Not to mention there are other white boy rappers like Kid Laroi and Jack Harlow starting to win over the GP.

It’s a mixture of bad quality releases and the transition into a new decade where some acts who were popular in the last decade will be left behind if they don’t adapt. The current pop landscape doesn’t fit the vibe he had with BB&B or his many string of hits from 2016-19 imo.

Perhaps he should have followed the Billie print and chosen art over charts

The songs he's released as singles since Circles don't have the same hit quality

The Kid Laroi is eating his lunch right now, he needs to come with a banger

Not sure if he has the range though. His best songs and hits ever since White Iverson have just been basic college party bops

Just bad quality - both songs are really uninspired and behind on trends rather than ahead of them like he used to be.

He quite honestly should go pop country/folk, that seems to be where he's most acclaimed.

Happier Than Ever have more streams than his last two singles combined too so...

OT: The music genuinely doesn't live up to Hollywood's Bleeding, which was his best album. He needs to release an actual bop.
