42. Raissa, “SHADES ON”

This fits right into the Charli XCX and 100 gecs realm with the fuzzy pop sounds and ominous. This is so c*nt. She could be a problem!

41. Beach Bunny, “Oxygen”

Heartfelt and lovestruck lyrics, and a heavy guitar chorus that just hits which so much replay value. While all the other rock girls were on Twitter fighting Lili has been in her bag.

40. Olivia Rodrigo, “driver’s license”

I didn’t want to do it. I’m sucker for a good build up, and she ate, I can’t lie this time. Now go away.

39. Clairo, “Amoeba”

It’s no classic like “Bags” but it gets the job done still. Love the lush instrumentals and almost funky rhythm it tries to tease into but falls back.

38. James Blake, “Coming Back (feat, SZA)”

One of my favorite SZA features this year that will probably be overlooked. Two unique styles of alternative R&B wrapped in one. This keeps on unfolding to a even more beautiful track minute-by-minute.

37. Tems, “Free Mind”

Before she became the hook girl from “Essence” she won my heart on this unknown record. This just feels like self-care. “Free Mind” is about a particularly vulnerable and low point in Tems’ life and she really reels you in with her soulful and powerful voice. This almost could be a great Rih comeback or farewell song, either way.

36. Amine, “Charmander”

This song is so bouncy, so colorful and quirky as much as it is retrospective and relatable. Underrated alternative rap song of the year.

35. Bree Runway, “ATM (feat. Missy Elliott)”

Fun and cunning, Bree has been delivering for a few years now and shows no signs of letting up. Missy worked well for this track and delivered her best bars in years.

34. Don Toliver, “Drugs N Hella Melodies (feat. Kali Uchis)”

The title speaks for itself. This is almost like a pothead’s lullaby. The blend between the two artists from different worlds turned out to be perfect. Toliver has a perfect ear for melodies.

OMG such an underrated track :worship2:

As much as I like chill stuff, I can't seem to get into Clairo's music. :doc:

Another one I like is driver's license.

Missed so much good stuff but there's a lot to love in the last three sets!

Drug and Hella Melodies, ATM, and drivers license from this last update (it actually grew on me a lot lol)

Other faves: Dakiti, Wild Side, MMAOS Live, Industry Baby, Want U Around, Jackie, Guerrilla, Bankroll, Come Home :jonnycat:

33. Jazmine Sullivan, “On It (feat. Ari Lennox)”

https://open.spotify.com/track/4Xr6BbSSu5HhImp8vfxMbg?si=b33d606c131248ab

This took me by storm. Two artists you would have never thought would be this sexy and this vulgar, we love to see it.

32. Megan Thee Stallion, “Cry Baby (feat. DaBaby)”

https://open.spotify.com/track/4aarlAfLKVCTxUDNgbwhjH?si=2e2d522d89f44c26

Instant fan favorite, it’s such a shame that Da Baby is such trash because their formula and collaborations have not missed one bit. A joint EP would have been fire, but now that ship has sailed. Da Baby set the tone and Megan took it home. Fun record.

31. Doja Cat, “Streets”

https://open.spotify.com/track/60ynsPSSKe6O3sfwRnIBRf?si=8be6b2b192044b32

Oldie now, but goodie. “Streets” missed last years countdown but its staying power kept it going throughout 2021.

30. Caroline Polachek, “Bunny Is A Rider”

https://open.spotify.com/track/1rYABrDmfqVmJMwaNJBUUb?si=a8b1ace9e1e145b9

Caroline has settled into her artistry. Bunny is a left-field pop record with some interesting rhyming couplets and a bouncy instrumental.

29. Josh Levi, “NASA”

https://open.spotify.com/track/4WcvNM8nhqfUi1HSqksUSL?si=5f9b97cc3f9a4979

The nostalgia from the Music Video reminds you of 90s Usher. This boy has confidence of one of the main pop boys and I’m here for it. He dances, he sings well, and the song had me hooked. Give him a shot.

28. Tinashe, “X (feat. Jeremih)”

https://open.spotify.com/track/3LUvWNx3ceBjsOeuDOMEsl?si=0565a44dd9ea42d2

I wasn’t too happy about getting into this project until “Bouncin’” saved it. Too be quite honest I still don’t know what to think of 333 but this right here is a standout banger.

27. Snail Mail, “Valentine”

https://open.spotify.com/track/21brT2CZwKz8VPCf0nFxiP?si=318a628aa4234d7b

Snail Mail is another indie-adjacent artist returning after a big previous record that was well received and she didn’t stop there. “Valentine” is not too far off from her last, but she picks up even more steam with unexpected instruments after her mellow arrangements – which I love the flow of her music.

26. Ama Lou, “Trust Nobody”

https://open.spotify.com/track/60noSWJZxLxgZBzmOKxckF?si=2567603f235f49e7

So glad I found this track. I vaguely remember her back in 2018. Ama Lou is a 22-year-old songstress and model from north London. This track is so stripped, and her vocals are so strong and rich that you feel every lyric and emotion she is going through. One of my favorite R&B records of the year.

25. WILLOW, “t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l”

https://open.spotify.com/track/1QL7nSDZCwZMnbisV4KOXt?si=7597ed304dd8462d

Willow has had one of the best transitional phases in recent music history. She made R&B to pop-punk so seamless. She channeled Avril and Paramore which I didn’t realize how much we needed them or at least this sound in music right now. This is a lane for her I’m equally excited for as to when she did R&B.

24. Lil Nas X, “DEAD RIGHT NOW”

https://open.spotify.com/track/3grVoZ10bm2jUGpo7BxpuF?si=2b281ac35e3649f6

Many of Montero’s tracks could have made the cut but this one here had me almost shedding tears. But I’m still a thug. The storytelling, the flow, the choir, the vulnerability, and transparency. Is it Graduation? 808’s & Heartbreak?

23. Summer Walker, “Unloyal (feat. Ari Lennox)”

https://open.spotify.com/track/081Shn2hU3YxvQmGaCPegr?si=0c8e94ca43bf4d05

2021’s “Tyrone” – If you know you know. The whole set-up, vibe and arrangements are chef’s kiss. Many of Summer’s records could have made the list but this really hit and resonated with me before I even knew it was a fan favorite.

22. Jazmine Sullivan, “Pick Up Your Feelings”

https://open.spotify.com/track/4k2cAUUPp3VZdK4gwG9pxy?si=709b745ee6994969

“Heaux Tales” was a more sexually charged record but this track scales back to what we know and love of Jazmine, the Adele of R&B, the pure vocals, women empowerment, encouragement, and anecdotes.

Tew much taste was served, I fear.
