They can do, and have done, much better. 333 She's recovered so much since that flop Joyride. It's basically Songs for You 2.0 and I love that... might prefer Aquarius over both though. || Good Ones is a banger indeed! And one of the rare times I've been obsessed with a single that's less than 2m30s. willow & All I Know So Far are super cute Please + How Does It Feel mmm Don't Go Yet is one of C**ila's very, VERY few tolerable songs. Even with a pretty weak single, they released bunch of pretty excellent singles, which lead up to this album. Californian Soil is probably their easiest album to listen, it finds great balance between Hannah magical classic vocals and hypnotic electronic/indie/pop songs. Beautiful songwriting and amazing sound, as always. I still think their previous two album were better, maybe because how Californian Soil' singles overshadowed the rest of the record. highlights: Call Your Friends, Missing, I Need the Night, By the Way 15 Marina | Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land "If you just bought me flowers, maybe I would've stayed" Marina is BACK. Like, good ol' Marina is back I used to bop to Love+Fear, which was my guilty pleasure But, you need to admit how uninspired and soulless that album was. On Ancient Dreams she returns with both her emotional lyrics, socio-political statements, confidence, her love to the nature and whats most important, usage of live instruments. Album feels like full of life and energy, and it wouldn't made me happier. highlights: Highly Emotional People, Goodbye, Flowers, Venus Fly Trap 14 Birdy | Young Heart "Do you feel, at times, that you don't belong?" Another queen of hiding for a few years is back! Honestly, I wasn't really excited about album, mostly because her last year's EP did nothing for me, but fuck, she proved me wrong! Young Heart is sentimental, full of emotion, perfectly capturing journey from heartbreak to finally finding a peace and self-love. It's gorgeously written and produced, I love how just piano and guitar and her voice hit your brain, it's probably her most consistent, mature and best overall body of work. Really shame it went under radar, she deserved so much recognition. highlights: Celestial Dancers, Voyager, The Otherside, River Song TOP 150 SINGLES 31 Doja Cat | Streets "Let a hoe know I ain't motherfuckin' sharing" You just can't love how Doja smashes every time with little to no effort It felt so organic and.. right, mostly because it's always the great songs. Streets was one of the highlights from Hot Pink and I was especially attracted by song since that milk performance I just love how it's both rapping and soft singing on the same song, it's so lush and luxorious 30 Aly & AJ | Slow Dancing "Heaven's here it's right where you're standing" This lead was a bit shocking after string of dance/electropo anthem they released during last years, but this was great introduction to their new sound. It's chilly, acoustic mostly, production doesn't picks up until the end, but... its simplicity helps this song to shine. It reflective, beautiful, soft, emotional - great track that reflect the feelings of seperate or loneliness, especially in times of isolation. 29 Billie Eilish | NDA "You couldn't save me, but you can't let me go" This is probably the closest we got WWAFAWDWG sound on her second album - and I love it! The lyrics stay with you, chorus is addictive, noisy inro is cool, beat is just unescapable. Also the switch on the chorus Production is just insane, should've been a smash, tbh. 28 Birdy | Deepest Lonely "Only you can solve me, misunderstood in my ways" This is ... pure magic? Another song on countdown capturing the feeling of being alone, but this one is more about feeling of need to be alone, of liking to be alone (basically me ). It's just so full of strings, beautiful piano and backvocals, so it capturing you being alone and solitude as something you're alright with. 27 Olivia Rodrigo | deja vu "So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too?" This is...her best song literally? It's pop at its best - euphoric, stomping, bittersweet, explosive, dramatic. 26 Aly & AJ | Listen!!! "I'm feelin' like I'm a hostage here" Probably one of the most 'commercial' song from their album - it sounds like some portion of 2000s pop-rock nostalgia mixed up with modern alt-pop, it's incredibly catchy, infectious and uplifting. 25 Marina | Venus Fly Trap "I never quite fit in to that Hollywood thing" 'Hollywood' continuation I never knew I needed in my life It's a bit quirky and offbeat, fun and punchy, theatratical and harsh Probably one of her best songs in years. 24 Wolf Alice | The Last Man on Earth "Who are you to ask for anything more?" One of the most beautiful, delicate and breathy songs from Blue Weekend. Songwriting is amazing - sharp and smart, gives you a minute to thought about it. Explosion at the end gave the song even more emotions, epic ending lift the song to a new heights. 23 Julia Michaels | All Your Exes "I want to live in a world where all your exes are dead" This is...perfect? Like, fun lyrics, guitar accompaniment, honest, comedical a bit, EXTREMLY catchy, relatable and infectious! Probably one of her best songs ever and such a shame it wasn't a success hate GP and her label 22 Adele | Easy on Me "I changed who I was to put you both first" I need to say that I'm absolutely okay with Adele still doing power ballads instead of leaning onto disco or dance music. For artists like her, it's not really that important, her power is to showcase her voice, her emotion through it, her songwriting and honesty. BUT I do expect something different, but it mostly comes down to absence of explosive ending, or explosive chorus. And even though it wasn't as striking as Hello, it still hits me. You can feel her soul through this song, laid-back, more stripped sound compliments her sentimental lyrics, feels of regret and heartbreak. 21 Rita Ora, David Guetta, Imanbek, Gunna | Big "Big enough for me to call you papa" I'm a bit surprised this one got so high, but welp, Rita 'Spreader' Ora made some points with this bop! A massive banger, I love hard-hitting drums and synths.
