Also, thanks for maintaining her receipts thread, gagacasanova!  I have a stash of receipts I need to sort through to see if I have anything to add.

(And Afterlight, you did a lovely job with the base thread!)

Could COO get to 2.1X Diamond to tie Garth Brooks EXTREMELY inflated Double's certification? She has obviously added some SPS to COO, and it was already at 2 X D.

COO is probably sitting on ~20,450,000 in traditional sales, ~300,000 in TEAs, and ~150,000 in SEAs (100k video / 50k audio).  That's assuming all of the TEAs and SEAs count toward COO and not her GH.  If so, the album may be as little as 100,000 SPS units away from receiving a new certification.  It could certainly reach it in the next 1-2 years as she gets her name back out there and promotes NOW with the tour, her movie, etc.

The craziest thing about COO is, as successful as the album was, if she never released her GH it would have breezed past 22x platinum in pure sales and 23x in SPS.  On top of that, although it isn't often discussed, she was moving massive numbers of physical singles too.  Those sold for three times the cost of $1.29 digital singles today.  Using Chartmasters' methodology of weighting, her physical single sales of YSTO alone would contribute an additional 600,000 TEAs and altogether they'd earn her yet another platinum plaque.  We're talking 24x platinum in CPS.  :deadbanana3:

---

Speaking more realistically, if those TEAs/SEAs count toward her GH instead as is commonly applied, then it is overdue for a 5x cert.  Again, these are just my non-insider estimates, but it is on ~4,400,000 in traditional sales and I would peg it at ~500,000 in TEAs and ~250,000 in SEAs.

Up! is easily due for a 12x certification as well.  It's sold over 5,410,000 copies of the double-disc version, the "country mixes" tape moved an additional 60-100k units, 477,000 copies were sold through BMG after only six weeks on sale, it continued to sell through BMG from February 2002, and it was listed in Columbia House.  Even with TEAs and SEAs I don't think 13x is in the cards, but I wouldn't rule it out entirely either.

:3rdplace:

That is a great start!

I'm expecting something like:

- #1 US

- #1 CA

- #1/#2 UK :duca:

- #1 IE

- #2/#3 AU with an outside shot at #1

- #3 NZ--confirmed

- Maaay sneak into the T10 in Germany, doubtful.  Thinking st like #12 (#14 midweeks) is more likely.

- Norway stanned a bit on iTunes/AM.  We could potentially see another T10 there.

- Switzerland, South Africa, Sweden, and/or Netherlands might surprise w/ a T20?

- Not expecting much from France or Spain... T20-30-40?  Depends on physical stock.

- Brazil is my dark horse for a "random" T20.

These are exciting times!  Never thought we'd have a chart run for another ST album.  Let's go girls!

Releasing NOW + getting her name back out there is doing wonders for her catalog.  Her GH reaches 125 on the BB200 this week; it has sold 5,772 copies in the last four weeks.  I hope radio recognizes this and adds more of her old hits to their rotations.

Do any of her songs get good recurrent airlplay?

In Australia, it's probably 'That Don't Impress Me Much' that gets the most, followed by 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman'.

You're Still The One and From This Moment On seem too slow for todays radio.

I'm Outta Here gets random airplay occasionally, too.

I compiled Shania's available streaming data last night.

All of the totals reflect streams on Spotify and VEVO (YouTube) platforms only.*  Streams from her official YouTube channel were not included, neither were unofficial covers, BTS videos, nor live videos not appearing on ShaniaTwainVEVO.

*Except for White Christmas on YouTube, because Michael Bublé's channel is owned by WMG.

- Spotify data includes streams through end of 8 October, 2017.

- VEVO (YouTube) data includes streams through 04:30 UTC on 10 October, 2017.

Highlights:

  • 55 songs top 1,000,000 streams.
  • 40 songs top 2,000,000 streams.
  • 30 songs top 5,000,000 streams.
  • 23 songs top 10,000,000 streams.  The newest of which, LATGG, currently ranks #21 overall.
  • 15 songs top 20,000,000 streams.  DBS will be the next to pass this threshold.
  • 13 songs top 30,000,000 streams.
  • 10 songs top 40,000,000 streams.  These songs are:
    • #10: WYKM - 40,261,203
    • #09: Endless Love (duet w/ Lionel Richie) - 41,044,195
    • #08: IGGG - 41,676,257
    • #07: White Christmas (duet w/ Michael Bublé) - 54,847,284

    • #02: YSTO (includes duet w/ Paula Fernandes) - 154,279,904
    • #01: MIFLAW - 166,179,836
  • The top ten includes 1 song off of The Woman in Me, 4 from Come On Over, and 3 from Up!, as well as 2 duets.
  • With the X-mas season approaching, WC may temporarily challenge AMOM & FAFA for 5th place.
  • Her four most streamed songs, all on COO, represent 557,878,661 streams--nearly half of her total.

You're Still The One and From This Moment On seem too slow for todays radio.

I'm Outta Here gets random airplay occasionally, too.

It depends.

The vast majority of country radio stations do not play her music--new or otherwise--neither do they play any of her contemporary female peers.  (Garth Brooks, on the other hand, is omnipresent.  That's sexism for you...)  The ones which do play her material use AMOM as their go-to.  WBHYBBU, IYNIIFLIOH, HIH, and surprisingly MIFLAW receive occasional spins.

She fares better on AC radio stations--but not by much.  The staples on AC are YSTO and MIFLAW.  FAFA is remembered--for whatever reason I hear it frequently in grocery stores :deadbanana:--as is FTMO and to a lesser extent TDIMM.

Fortunately, combined all three studio albums (ST can rot) are at least somewhat represented.  I don't mean to paint too rosy of a picture, however; for a star of her caliber, her music is woefully underutilized by radio.

Here are some radio stats dated July 24, 2008:

  1. You're Still The One : 8,780.066 (860,903) #5
  2. Man! I Feel Like A Woman! : 5,714.915 (607,119) #56
  3. That Don't Impress Me Much : 5,436.998 (593,446) #67
  4. Forever And For Always : 4,218.445 (528,545) #148
  5. From This Moment On : 4,000.572 (387,303) #175 + ft. Bryan White : 1,388.325 (161,462)
  6. Any Man Of Mine : 2,380.289 (298,252)
  7. Honey, I'm Home : 2,312.413 (275,989)
  8. (If You're Not..) I'm Outta... : 2,089.989 (257,264)
  9. Whose Bed Have Your Boots ... : 1,875.117 (224,574)
  10. Love Gets Me Every Time : 1,611.858 (190,081)

The first number is airplay-to-date (in millions), the second number is spins-to-date, and the third number (where applicable) is the all-time Mediabase rank.  Mediabase began monitoring airplay in 1998, so it is biased toward artists who debuted afterward.  Similarly, because they constantly add stations, Mediabase is increasingly biased toward newer and newer artists.

Nonetheless, ten years after most of those songs made their debut, Shania fared supremely well on their all-time charts.  (As you can see, US stations were reticent to pick up material from Up! and beyond.)  At that time, YSTO was the 5th most played track in Mediabase history!  Also, it should be noted that FTMO would rank ~70th were you to combine versions.

These numbers hold true for her entire catalog.  By July 22, 2007, approximately one year before the above data was compiled, she had acquired a total of 47,029.535 million audience impressions from 5,347,679 spins.  You read that right; her songs were listened to over 47 BILLION times.  Averaged across the US population that was more than 155 plays PER CITIZEN.

Sadly, the extended hiatus following Shania's divorce drastically cut into her recurrent airplay.  By the 2010s almost all of these songs had slowed down considerably, with YSTO being a notable exception (still gaining some ~200M+ impressions/year)

...Aaand I'm going to quit there, because I have been staring at numbers for far too long.  I have a bunch more airplay data amassed on my hard-drive mostly thanks to the good folks over at UKmix, but it's a mess to sort through.  I'll get to it one day.

Same. I work in one and they play that a LOT. They'll play PFT, YGAW and IGGG as well.

and thanks for so much research! I was considering adding her Streaming to the OPs., but I can never find Spotify stats.

Out of the four, they play IGGG the least. Why I don't know... they're starting to play Keith & Carrie's song, so maybe it's only a matter of time they'll play LATGG. Our store plays basically what you would hear on Adult Contemporary radio.
