For those who do not know SZA is a practicing Muslim and has spoken about her religious beliefs a number of times.

Her collab with Doja Cat is rising on the Hot 100. If it goes #1 it will mark the first time a female artist who is Muslim goes #1 on the American Chart. 

Olivia is slated to go #1 next week and then the week after that BTS. If radio rises Kiss Me More may have a chance of going #1 after that

*Note: Sinead O'Connor topped billboard but was not Muslim when she topped the chart as she converted to Islam much later in life.

honestly no clue tbh. But even if she did. Janet and Sinead O'Connor got their #1 before becoming Muslim. Whereas SZA is currently Muslim and vocal about it too. Dua was close to being the first (though she isn't necessarily practicing I think whereas SZA says she prays and recites quranic verses etc...)

I'm confused. I thought Muslim women couldn't dress in public the way she does.

nah they can. Muslims pick and choose what they want from their faith if they live in a liberal society. If you visit European Muslim nations they drink, wear what they want etc...Even some North African nations don't care all that much about what women wear. It's more of a cultural thing. Obviously in the faiths scripture itself you have to dress up "modestly" but muslims are human like Christians and they get to pick and choose what they want to follow in their faith (as long as they live in a society where they can pick and choose obviously...if you live in Iran or Saudi Arabia or w/e then good luck  )

Nope. Paula is apparently of Arabic Jewish descent. She is not Muslim

well her family is for sure. But either way she didn't go #1 yet. hopefully she does eventually! Maybe a SZA & Dua Lipa collab will do it

Ah so another person who pretends to follow a religion and just chooses what they see fit.

basically lol. Most people dont follow word for word what is in a religion and just choose what they like. Which is fair I guess. It makes religion a lot less intense so that's a good thing imo

but all their #1s happened before they were muslim as they converted later in their lives. If SZA does it she'd be the first to do basically!

Dua has never identified herself as a Muslim, practicing or otherwise, and 70% of London young people identify as non religious, so probably not. 

SZA is an interesting case, as she’s never given a straight answer as to whether or not she practices. She says it’s comforting to play shows in Malaysia and Indonesia “where I’m among my own people”, but she’s also very new age crystals, more spiritual than classical Islamic practices these days. I think SZA has more evidence and claim to being the first Muslim woman to top the hot 100, but still it’s unclear how she identifies.

no SZA 100% identifies as muslim though she is more new age in a way. It's like a Sufism version islam. SZA wore a hijab her entire childhood and said she wears it still to this day from time to time. She only stopped wearing it due to bullying as a child and then as she got older she didnt want to wear her hijab while doing music videos and stuff cuz she felt it disrespected the faith. She also said in an interview with Charlemagne or Ebro I believe that she is muslim and that the faith makes sense to her. She has many interviews tlaking about it like this one with Nessa:

 

SZA is 100% muslim identifying. It's not like the Dua situation where it is ambiguous / more so about her family being muslim and not her etc...

SZA would be the first muslim identifying woman to top billboard which is a pretty cool record i guess!
