Let's hope the content is as acclaimed as the packaging!

I appreciate the positive feedback though, really. It's fun making era concepts. I wish I could have posted something earlier in the week but I just had NO time, so I guess that will have to be postponed until a later date...

A part of what I love about these games is writers sharing visions of their own concepts. It shows how dedicated people can be to what they’re doing. I’ve done something like that before as well because it’s fun. Seeing your posts here about your own concepts feels inspiring!

Oh, I was just about to get some shut-eye. :celestial5: Thanks for the review, and happy to hear you found it intriguing Hug!

Surprised at there only being four submissions though. :noparty:Hopefully some comebacks next round? Unless next round is the Top 3 finale...

Thanks for the review Hug! I totally agree about you saying it starts off weak because the verses were the parts I worked the least on, I wrote them in one take I think :dies:

Sorry I won't be able to post today (or tonight if you're from the West). I was doing my reviews then I just suddenly felt sleepy. I can't even think straight :rip: It's probably because of the meds I took a while ago. Again, sorry for the delay :gaycat6:

Spoiler

@Aurora- This was a very interesting and amusing approach to your topic. I noticed "Satire" was a genre so :gaycat6:. I liked your chorus a lot, it had a really tight structure that helped inform your concept as a whole. Your imagery is particularly interesting this time around because you did something that a lot of others have experimented with - a lot of mundane descriptions become something more meaningful or interesting. I like that! It makes sense with this song just purely because nothing really happens - instead it's more of a mood piece. I feel like this is a pretty abstract or conceptual piece which makes sense to me. I would've liked to see more of a story carved out of this personally, but strongly written as usual.

@Jackson- Not the emotive song leading into a sex bop. This was a pretty cool approach, I liked the duality and felt the contrasting made sense. I was more struck with your second half because I think you played to your strengths there. The descriptive imagery worked surprisingly well with the "sex pop" nature. You lost me at the rap :gaycat6: but I mean that's a personal preference. I just felt like it faltered from the rest. Overall it was a risky entry, but I think there's a neat concept in there.

@Prisoner- This was super engaging! I like the way you approached this. It wasn't too on-the-nose or immersed in like.. biblical terms of phrase etc. I feel like you found a natural "click" between your usual sense of songwriting and the new topic. There was a tight structure that I admired here, and I felt like every section was really purposeful.

@Auburn- The poetic :gaycat6: this was really pretty. I like the tone a LOT and honestly I've discovered that that is one of your biggest strengths. You have the ability to capture a mood and really stick with it, making sure everything reinforces it so that we get pulled into the world you've created. I really liked this entry, great work!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts minho and funnellegs. It's interesting to see that the satirical nature of the piece was obvious to some and unidentifiable to others, but I like that we all have different approaches to readings.

PRISONER - MY WAY

OFKY3JpxSteEEezzhhiISfm6D6u7Mb6RQyXAtk-5

1. Hopelessly Devoted To You

2. One day you're driving your dad's old car

3. Beyond The Backyard Fence

4. A Sea of Daffodils

5. My Way

6. Highway

7. When I Pretend (Bonus Song)

Here are the two songs I wrote for the round. I decided to share the one I didn't submit as well since I love them both about the same :gaycat4:

Highway

Spoiler

VERSE

We'll be chained by their hate forever

Unless you have a plan, my dear

And something in your eyes tells me, you do

We'll be locked in by their gates forever

Unless I run away with you

And something in my heart tells me, I want to

CHORUS

So let us run away from here

And go into the great unknown

Into the highway of hope to where

Freedom flies freely in the air

And though it's just the two of us

We'll be getting our very own exodus

VERSE

This isn't something I want them to change

For it to end and you're just a friend

So I pray they don't find out, heaven forbids

This isn't a place I want my memories

To collect like the scars they inflict

So let's sneak away from here like we're kids

CHORUS

So let us run away from here

And go into the great unknown

Into the highway of hope to where

Freedom flies freely in the air

And though it's just the two of us

We'll be a part of the great exodus

BRIDGE

So run and don't look back

Don't mind the adrenaline or the suspense

The electricity in the fence

And the sirens calling out our names

CHORUS

So let us run away from here

And go into the great unknown

Into the highway of hope to where

Freedom flies freely in the air

And though it's just the two of us

We'll be a part of what they call exodus

OUTRO

So run and don't look back

The grip of your hand on mine

Our bodies shaking like a fault line

So run and don't look back

The flutter of your brown jacket

I'll memorise it like a habit

So run and don't look back

The shimmer in your black hair

Glistening sweat in the evening air

So run and don't look back

The sounds of cars on the street

The heat of the concrete on my feet

So run and don't ever look back

We made our exodus tonight

The smile on your face is like a birthright

When I Pretend

Spoiler

VERSE

I'm the antithesis to life's canon

A biblical disgrace in a sacred place

I don't know if I want part in a fandom

That proliferates through their words of hate

We used to have fun, tales of Cain and Abel

But now I feel like it's all lies and treason

Cause I used to love Narnia like the fables

Does growing old turn us into demons?

PRE CHORUS

It's not skepticism

It's a little farther where

I'd find peace somewhere

If I'd just listen

CHORUS

Standing right here in this pulpit gazing

At an empty church and blasting rock tunes

Nobody's hurt and nobody's complaining

When I pretend like everything's cool

VERSE

I pray to Jesus because that's my faith

So the real problem that I have in hand

Isn't the people that calls me desperate

But the people revering Trump and Mike Pence

A flock constantly preyed on by the wolves

Worshipping the hand that bites and then bleeds

All over and acts like it's one for the books

Spreading the poison, misreading to mislead

PRE CHORUS

It's not skepticism

It's a little farther where

I'd find peace somewhere

If I'd just listen

CHORUS

Standing right here in this pulpit gazing

At an empty church and blasting rock tunes

Nobody's hurt and nobody's complaining

When I pretend like everything's cool

Standing right here in this pulpit gazing

At an empty church and blasting rock tunes

Escape the pain and escape reality

As I pretend like everything's cool

BRIDGE

And people say what they wanna say about me

So I close my eyes and I won't hear a thing

And then you say all the things you're saying to me

So I close my eyes but why do I feel it sting?

CHORUS

Standing right here in this pulpit gazing

At an empty church and blasting rock tunes

Nobody's hurt and nobody's complaining

When I pretend like everything's cool

Standing right here in this pulpit gazing

At an empty church and blasting rock tunes

Everyone's hurt and everyone's complaining

When I sing the words out like a fool

Thanks for the feedback Rence—I'm glad to hear you liked it, at least conceptually. I'm also pleased you mentioned thematic coherence, because I intend for there to be somewhat of a thread connecting each of the songs (the genesis theme was used in the chorus of a song I wrote earlier in the season, "2", which follows this round's submission in the track list, as well as the consecutive tracks "Riverbed" and "Into My Sea" featuring water imagery, for example).

While I do agree that "Aurenaissance I" works better in a for-the-album context than as a standalone piece in comparison to "Aurenaissance II", I do picture "Aurenaissance I" as more of a short album intro, while "Aurenaissance II" would be a longer mid-album interlude bridging the two parts (leading out of "Into My Sea" and into "Creation". My intention was for "Aurenaissance I" to not only establish the tone of the album, but to in turn establish the tone of the song "Genesis" so that it would not be taken at face value having been prefaced by questioning theology, raising doubt, and provoking the reader's own imagination.

This is probably giving a bit #AuthenticallyMinimalist but I appreciate the comments and suggestions from all of the judges and should I make it to the next round I will take them on board. This will in all likelihood be my final double entry for the season but it's been fun experimenting with something like this since I haven't actually done it in any other season before.
