Another year of hesitation and last-minute planning, but here I am. Here’s my list from last year: 2019 And for this year, I decided to include some releases from the end of last year that I didn’t get to include because of their late release dates. I find it difficult to give more accurate opinions with stuff I didn’t have a lot of time to listen to. So there’ll be some stuff from November 1, 2019 – October 29, 2020. Favorites: “Introspection”, “Pretty Girl hi!” 29. VÉRITÉ – new limbs (vol. 1) Initially, I was pretty uninterested in the songs she released from this prior to the whole EP. The songs have since grown on me after a few more listens. Favorites: “i’ll take the blame”, “younger women” 28. Alice Chater – Aries I’m still really unfamiliar with her music, but “Tonight” remains a bop. So I went into this EP expecting a few more songs like it, which led to a little bit of disappointment. The songs are cute enough tho. Favorites: “Pretty in Pink”, “Aries” 27. Nova Miller – The Passion There’s actually numerous solid songs on here. It being released near the end of my cut-off for releases earned it a spot this low. I think it would have placed higher if I had more time to listen to it. Favorites: “Mi Amor”, “Timing” 26. Wallows – Remote Kind of clunky and pretty noisy, but I still enjoyed this. I liked nearly every one of these songs, they’re just fun if not kind of generic. Favorites: “Contact”, “Vhs” 49. LANY – mama's boy I was anticipating this album since I enjoyed their previous one “Malibu Nights”. But the album felt pretty lengthy to me and I find myself skipping quite a few tracks after a while. Favorites: “cowboy in LA”, “good guys” 48. Stevan – Just Kids Maybe it’s the artwork getting to me, but this is a pretty feel-good and summery album. The production on this is just bright. Favorites: “Lnt”, “Timee” 47. Lennon Stella – Three. Two. One I listened to this quite a lot when it was first released, but the replay value declined for me after some time. I still come back to a handful of songs. Favorites: “Fear of Being Alone”, “Bend Over Backwards” 46. Ella Vos – Turbulence Honestly, there’s not thaaat much substance to this, but it’s a collection of cute and harmless songs. I want to like Wallows because their sound is cute and so is Dylan but they're just not hitting me mama's boy was kinda floppy honestly, I'd say there's only around 3 standout tracks. I liked Three. Favorites: “Never Get Me”, “On Me (feat. Dijon)” 24. BUMPER – pop songs 2020 It only has 4 songs, but they all pack a decent punch. Has a pretty digital feel to it, if that makes sense. Favorites: “Red Brick”, “Ballad 0” 23. Highasakite – The Bare Romantic, Part 2 I discovered them last year with their album “Uranium Heart” which ended up being one my favorites of 2019. Another set of emotional mid-tempo songs that they seem to specialize in. Favorites: “Under the Sun”, “All for Love” 22. Robinson – Watching You Favorites: “Lie to Me”, “Don’t Say” 21. mxmtoon – dusk One of two EPs that Maia released this year. It’s nothing particularly special, it’s pretty middle of the road for the genre. There’s a collab with Carly Rae Jepsen on here, if that’ll catch your attention lol. Favorites: “bon iver”, “asking for a friend” 20. ELIO – u and me, but mostly me A very promising debut, definitely an artist that I’m really interested in hearing more from. Favorites: “My Friends Online”, “Waste of Emotion” 19. The Japanese House – Chewing Cotton Wool Favorites: “Something Has to Change”, “Dionne (feat. Justin Vernon)” 18. Alfie Templeman – Happiness in Liquid Form A fun and upbeat EP, it’s also pretty groovy. Favorites: “Happiness in Liquid Form”, “Obvious Guy” 17.
