I think this is so obvious, and it indeed is the album representing 2020, musically, lyrically, thematically - the perfect album for 2020.

I know a lot hate this song, but I think this is the right lane for Katy from now on. if only the bridge had something going on, this may have snatched a spot in my top three.

 

4. The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

I mean, this is the song of 2020. Its Grammy snub still stings.

3. Marshmello, Halsey - Be Kind  

Call it generic, but Halsey's unique vocals and delivery is what makes this song really special. Too bad it didn't do great but Halsey can really turn a generic song awesome with just the tone of her voice (and delivery - see Graveyard).

 

2. Demi Lovato - Still Have Me  

In a year where Demi had so many releases, it's a disappointment because nothing stuck as a hit. However, as a Lovatic, my ears got blessed because all of her releases are amazing in my opinion (except I'm Ready, but it grew on me) - and this song is totally what blew me away. Anyone is that bitch for me (and was at one point in my top ten when I was ranking my top songs) but I kinda grew out of it once I heard this gem. This is a ballad done really well by Demi - the emotions, the authenticity, the vocal power, the lyrics, the subtle production - I mean I love Anyone but if she had just released this as her proper comeback single I really think it would have done wonders. Sucks but this gem will always have a space in my heart.

 

1. Taylor Swift - Cardigan  

Taylor just owned 2020 for me - I never would have thought that she will go the alternative route and give us this perfection. Cardigan is not a typical pop song by any means, but it still has a bit o f pop in it. However, the song is so sophisticated that I get how Exile or The 1 could have been better lead singles for Folklore, charts-wise. But I am glad she chose this song to represent the album because it has so many layers, the brilliant lyricism, and the vocal delivery. it's not a song that is vocally challenging, but those low notes are amazing!!! I mean Taylor shines on the lows! Do I wish that this has become a huge hit? Yes! But I am so proud of what this song has achieved being the type of song it is - I mean it has three different choruses! Taylor is just legendary and this song will always make me remember 2020 as a good year even though it's definitely far from it. Lastly, the way this song made me feel is astonishing. Sometimes the emotions just explode out of you by listening to something so beautiful and this song just gave me that.

BK didn't make my year-end chart but I still enjoy listening to it a lot and agree with this write-up! Her voice is more expressive than most people give her credit for and lends itself well to a lot of different musical styles. Even her more "generic" songs tend to be good-generic (WM, Eastside, Graveyard) and still really standout.
