Once a MPG always a MPG?

Recommended Posts

Once you've been given status of MPG can you lose the status or are you always considered a MPG?

Artists like Katy Perry who has sort of spiraled to oblivion was once considered one of the most successful female pop stars but once coronated into the MPG hall of fame can you lose it?

Personally I don't think you can lose it. Janet will always be a MPG but she's never going to be relevant again... until death.

Considering Minnesota just went on a lockdown again, all I have is the internet.

If you had nothing to add to the conversation why post at all?

If Janet Jackson was walking down the street, a crowd would form around her. You all throw around the term “not relevant” very loosely, kinda like your holes

I guess it depends on the artist

Kesha used to be a MPG I think?

she isn't one now..dont think she is in the MPG category forever

however there are artists like Avril for example

she used to be huge.. but she isn't anymore

i think she will be remembered as MPG at least

she has proven herself in a lot of categories..has enough hits to be remembered..truly impacted the music industry.

Not hating on these artists btw, just trying to make sense of it and give examples (formyselfalso)

Yes, the only MPGs nowadays are Taylor, Gaga and Ariana. Billie still has a lot to prove.

Hierarchy

1. Originals

2. Legends

3. Icons

4. MPGs

5. Pop Girls

6. Popstitutes

7. Industry Plant

Examples:

1. Originals: Aretha, Tina, Diana, Cher

2. Legends: Janet, Mariah, Madonna, Whitney, Céline (subgroup known as Legendary 5, separated from other legends)

3. Icons: Beyoncé, Mary J., Kylie Minogue, Britney

4. MPGs: Gaga, Ariana

5. Pop Girls: Miley, Billie

6. Popstitutes: Selena, Dua Lipa

7. Industry Plant: Most X Factor, American Idol, The Voice girls

Everyone starts as an industry plant. After 50 years of being in the industry legends can ascend to Originals level if they are voted into that elite group by fellow originals.

Legends vote on Icons to ascend. Icons vote on MPGs and so on.

Current presidents of the 3 highest orders:

1. Originals: Cher - preceeded by Diana Ross (incumbent since 1998)

2. Legends: Madonna - preceeded by Whitney (incumbent since 2012)

3. Icons: Taylor Swift - preceeded by Beyoncé (incumbent since 2017)

4. MPGs: Ariana - preceeded by Adele* (incumbent since 2019)

5. Pop Girls: Miley Cyrus - preceeded by Nicki Minaj (incumbent since 2018)

6. Popstitues: Dua Lipa - preceeded by Selena (incumbent since 2020)

7. Industry Plant: - no president - since they are under Label control

*Adele has advanced to Icons status, with a potential album, she can kick Beyoncé off the #2 (chancellor) position and probably also take over as president from Taylor.

Thresholds:

1. Originals: 50 years of career - highest impact on all levels of entertainment and culture

2. Legends: 25 years of career - high level of impact on all levels of entertainment and culture

3. Icons: 10 years of career - high levels of impact on most levels of entertainment

4. MPGs: 5 years of career - sustained success for 2-3 albums eras

5. Pop Girls: 3 years of career - string of quick lil' singles

6. Popstitutes: 2 year of career - string of dull and repetitive music which charts successfully due to features

7. Industry plant: immediate rating upon debut - has to show creative growth and involvement in music

If you want to know where your faves ranks, let me know, I can provide the insights.

Not really. Gaga was an MPG for a few months in 2010 but obviously lost that status before the end of the Born This Way era and never rise to that level of prominence again :doc:

Beyoncé is not a legend yet according to official documentation and a lack of voting, albeit all current major Legends (especially the legendary 5) approve her ascend to legendary status. We have to wait and see what 2021 will bring and of Beyoncé really wants it with her next project - same for Rihanna...

Janet has ascended to legendary status over 15 years ago. There is no such thing as losing your legendary ranking as that is permanent. (unlike Icons status and lower).

Did I claim otherwise? I was agreeing with the fact that Janet was indeed a legend. She’s also one of the most influential women in pop music.
