Was Mariah's Daydream the biggest GRAMMY snub of all time?

6 nominations, universally dubbed the AOTY of 1995/6, 3 #1 hits, lead debuted at #1, 2nd single Song of the Decade, Always Be My Baby one of her most iconic hits.

She left home empty handed after being the biggest commercial and critical success of 1995/6. One of the biggest selling albums of all time being awarded nothing at the GRAMMYs :rip:

Was this the biggest snub and mistake the GRAMMYs made.

Yes! Mariah is a legend today while people are still talking about how racist the grammies are. Billie Eyeroll has as much grammies as Mariah has in 30 years tells you already everything.

and an album track winning over We Belong Together is just another proof how much biased they are towards Mariah.

I’ve heard that and I’ve also heard Tommy orchestrated something since the two were on the outs. I don’t know which - if either - is true, but I’m sure it’ll be discussed in the memoir.

Possibly, but please don't go for Jagged Little Pill's success because it deserved its win.

ANTI and CTRL come to mind but Mariah in general got snubbed for Grammy's. Did critics not like her music? Was it her image? I don't get it :rip:

No, the album was mediocre outside of the singles and I say that as a Mariah fan. Sales aren't everything.  However, the album that won Pop Vocal (Joni Mitchell's  Turbulent Indigo)  wasn't pop at all and shouldn't have even been in the catergory.

She was a charts and critics darling at the time.

She deserved ROTY at the very least, Jagged Little was cute and also deserving of AOTY but Mariah not winning a single one :deadbanana2:

Back in the 90s,   Mariah was seen as a label puppet who over-sang her songs. Her music was also seen as overly-sentimental/  novelty/ pandering to the lowest common denomnatior.  Kind of the way Katy Perry is seen.   Plus, writing your own songs wasn't seen as impressive when you have so many alt-girls like Alanis who were doing that, and not just writing love songs.  Which is funny, b/c they handed Taylor and Adele two AOTYs for the same stuff two decades later.

I forgot ANTI was snubbed :rip:

She should've won but I feel less bad because it was obvious Queen didn't care. Mariah and SZA looked so devastated by the end of the night :(

Her marriage to Tommy played a role in her getting snubbed, most definitely. It was all politics, but out of all of her nominations, she only deserved 1-2 at the most. My girl Anita deserved the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. I Apologize is superior to everything on Daydream, with all honesty. That album is overrated.

Daydream was Mariah’s most critically acclaimed album up until that point. Her songwriting was even praised. The album performed much better critically than her pre Daydream albums. Many music critics were expecting Daydream to sweep. So, yes, the album was a critical success.

Why are you listing all of these albums :deadbanana:

just because daydream was not universally acclaimed does not mean it was panned. & Alanis and her were only in one category together.

It was universally acclaimed, though. It was her biggest critically acclaimed album up until that point.
