Why isn't Future Nostalgia selling more?

Recommended Posts

Squall

Estimated sales from last week:

'Future Nostalgia' by Dua Lipa 44,000 / 1,108,000

Despite benefiting a lot from big hits/streaming/radios/playlists, her album isn't doing great. While being one of the "hottest artists" of 2020, why isn't she doing better in the album sales department?

In comparison with older albums:

'Fine Line' by Harry Styles 66,000 / 2,492,000 (released in December 2019)

'After Hours' by The Weeknd 57.000 / 2.091.000 (released a week before)

'Hollywood's Bleeding' by Post Malone 55,000 / 4,701,000 (released in September 2019)

'When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?' by Billie Eilish 48,000 / 6,552,000 (March 2019)

Hum, it has JUST passed 1M despite Don't Start Now, Break My Heart (and Physical in Europe). Don't act like it's great when older albums are already outselling her (and yet, she is being played by radios and all so she's not in a different situation).

Globally she’s probably doing the same numbers of everyone, she just isn’t as strong as them in the US (for now)

Mediatraffic numbers = a mess and very US dependent... She's not huge in the US.

Globally her album tracks have been outstreaming After Hours tracks for almost 3 months now, let alone the other recent pop girl albums. Her singles have been doing well too.

These are Mediatraffic numbers lol :skull:

It's doing terrific in Europe, Oceania, Brazil, Canada, and other Latin America/ Southeast Asian markets

I'd say it's doing just fine and will be the biggest female album of 2020

Of course MT isn't an official source, wbk but we only have IFPI once a year ( and only for pure sales). Also, maybe it's "US dependent" because... it's the biggest market in the world? :skull:

How exactly when Billie's 2019 album is already outselling it?

It's pretty simple. Spotify and radio can only spam the singles. No one is interested in buying her albums.

You want to tell us 33% of Future Nostalgia sales coming from the US according to Mediatraffic is correct? When her ratio of US streams to worldwide streams is 1-to-6? Mediatraffic is just trash.

The fact that people are still trying to pass Mediatraffic as a credible source :skull:

They've been forced to listen to it's songs on Today's Top Hits for almost a year, why would they purchase it?

Well, it still probably won't be. At this rate, it's gonna end the year at 2-2.5M.

Look at the current sales in different markets and you'll see they are far from being excellent actually. He's the closest thing we have for album sales (even though he's kind of off with the Asian market). He's probably not far from the figures.

I didn't know 14,4k was "almost 50%" of 44k btw, you guys really are doing the MOST.

US: 14,4k

UK: 4,2k

France: 2k

Germany: 2-3k

Japan: less than 500

= already 24k (in the 5 main markets in the world)

20k in the rest of the world doesn't seem particularly off :dies:

ATRL is about sales too? Wow, what a shocker. Watch out, there is also a "charts" section on this forum.

But they are streaming her album tracks, even more so than The Weeknd's after the initial hype. Comparing with recent pop girl releases:

Average album track streams during day 31-90 for each album

(total streams in the said time period → divided by number of days → divided by number of album tracks)

Future Nostalgia: 232k

Rare: 84k

Romance: 79k

Manic: similar to Rare/Romance

Not really huge albums to compare with but a ratio of almost x3 is like the difference between a #10 on WW Spotify and #120.

Over a million for a pure female pop album with all its tracks solo in 2020 is not bad in any way wtf?

Specially for a woman that doesn't have a huge established fanbase :deadbanana4:
