Simon: TROLLZ #30 (-29), Black Parade #32

Featured Replies

I need some heat this July because I like rockstar but it will be one of the most uneventful laziest song of the summers we've had in years if it becomes the most successful summer song due to the pandemic.

Cardi/Drake/Rihanna/Beyonce where you at?

don't hide behind radio airplay. There are songs with little airplay but strong streams due to organic demand and chart better especially since the streaming era.

Radio airplay was a good excuse during the digital and physical CD era.

Nobody’s hiding. It’s not getting support from Apple/Spotify, totally invisible. Everyone’s still watching the video and it has 0 radio points.

This fall is cute. Stupid Love fell from #5 with tons of radio points, hype and positive reception. :sistrens:

Watch Intentions sneak up to #2 then get a Lil Baby remix for the #1. Yikes

N4Q1EDs.gif

So Beyonce’s latest single STILL debuted below the “massive drop” of TROLLZ

Literally no words...

and we know what that means for Gaga's solo output:oh:

My point was there are songs that do well on streaming but don't have much radio airplay and are charting better. hip hop songs tend to actually hold if they are performing well on streaming as streaming gets alot of benefit on hot 100 now vs pre 2015/6.

The reality is the video was watched for a few days and the streams even on hip hop leaning platforms weren't holding. black parade had playlists and it didn't help that song because people will listen to a song in full if they like it. They will listen to 30 seconds if that and skip if they don't.

Also, for a big video, if the visual is better than the song what would make people want to stream it again.

So quality has a factor.

Hiding behind radio or playlist when the song is a hip hop song by two controversial stars just ain't it.

And Stupid love had no demand which is why it barely placed 10 weeks on the chart.

In a way, streaming has exposed who is truly in demand and now it's about longevity moreso peaks in this streaming era.

I am 50/50 because while I believe the digital era was the most fair in the end streaming does prove longevity which is an important factor in measuring popularity too.

I kind of wish we could get the best of both worlds

Either way, whether its trolls or stupid love there are two examples of artist who either used a stunt of controversy or a big promo packet and week 2 no1curr.

The streaming era is separating the demand from the canned.

I have no dog in the fight as I am neither a hive (I respect beyonce) nor a barbz (I have soft spot for Nicki but can't use her post 2015) but barbz have all the right to shade Beyonce after how cocky many Hive members got making fun of the barbz when savage remix was in the clear lead.

Barbz better come through with the next level shade if it holds

and Black parade got playlisted and was released during a celebratory day.

why did you put “massive drop” in quotes as if it isn’t a massive drop? it’s the biggest fall from #1 in Billboard‘s 60+ year history :skull:

and why is everyone comparing Bey’s surprise released, holiday-specific charity single with minimal promo to the song with one of the most elaborate promo rollouts of the last 5 years where they pulled out EVERY chart tactic conceivable :dies: are y’all just willfully deluding yourselves on purpose?

I didn't think Black Pride would debut that high tbh :ihype:

Trollz remains disgusting though :ihype:

The biggest non-holiday drop from #1 in history :bibliahh: her stans trying to defend that :bibliahh:

Welp.

Beyonce has enough hits to last her a lifetime so i guess it's fine.

I love what she's been doing with her career since 2013 but post 2013 I'm not getting the quality music from her that I want.

Black parade could have been a great song oh well.

Hopefully it'll chart for a few weeks.

Oh I totally understand what you’re saying. Trust!

It’s just those same songs you say hold up, also get tons of playlist exposure (TTH, NMF, RapCavier) and streaming giant support (playlist covers, regular recommendation) - all things Trollz can not benefit from because of being worked against. It would help if you had examples? That’s why I say there’s no hiding behind radio or playlists when legitimately, it doesn’t have those things (and on purpose). So there’s no hiding.

It’s a fact if Trollz was in TTH/RapC, as it should be from (like you said) two controversial hip hop figures with a hot new release, it would naturally hold up better. If radio wasn’t ignoring it, it would hold up better.

So putting it alongside those songs doesn’t make that much sense, when you can’t for sure say they’d be the same without normal release support. Again, examples would help. I guess you’d just expect people to go searching for Trollz/6ix9ine/Nicki Minaj if they wanted to hear it - but we already know those extra steps hinder rather than help, no matter how big or relevant the artists are. It didn’t even have a chance to be accepted or denied by regular listeners by appearing on those playlists normally. They weren’t even listed under New Releases page.

And I mentioned the video because well, since it’s invisible to being casually streamed, that’s where it’s getting most of its streaming from. Considering the massive drop in sales, not appearing in the upper tier streaming charts and zero radio play - the video plays must still be enough to stop it from slipping #1 to #50-something :sistrens: I wasn’t saying it as a brag so this isn’t a convo about quality or whatever. I’m glad it did what it did and don’t care further for its performance. It’s just not a hiding to say it doesn’t have certain things, that every other hyped hit would have.

The worst part about how Beyonce has been is that it really just limits her reach so much. There’s plenty of her songs between 2011 and now that millions of people don’t know exist lol.

@slw84 Also I see it backwards. Digitally it was easier to have longevity, now the demand is in high peaks for streaming. Your song eventually stopped selling, but streaming is consistent. So whether you have a big first week or not, the song will typically end up hitting 300-400 million anyway so money’s gonna keep coming in while they can move on.

That’ll in turn cause some great longevity for particular monsters (see Circles), but in general these artists about to be moving in and moving out. Ariana’s double era will be a movement soon enough.

It's sad but she's in charge of her career and she wants it that way.

But Black parade should chart for at least 2-3 weeks

I would say it was easier to have longevity on the charts whether it was in the 40s or 20s with digital sales but in the streaming era (not just counting streaming) songs usually peak the first week or so, some end up peaking long term but less and less do. Many peak first week whereas in digital songs would start low peak high even if quick and then sustain based on what you were saying about digital.

Streaming has made it where it can actually chart higher without strong sales and radio but it'll fall but it will last on the charts a long time vs songs that are radio driven and then tumble (i.e. My oh my) or songs that are sales driven and then tumble (Travis scott songs and heartless). So if you get a good peak, great but it seems many songs are lingering in the top 50 because they have actual demand long term even if the sales are not great or if video views are men but streams are consistent.

It makes sense for artist to employ stunts for the first week now more than ever because that's usually the peak for 85% of songs whereas in the digital era they'd debut in the 60/70s/80s then jolt up the charts and depending on how radio grew it will grow even when the digital sales are not at peak anymore but have leveled out.

During the CD era radio was everything and you waited until it was within a few weeks of peaking on radio to release a single for peak status and those songs didn't have as much longevity because soon radio and sales were both on decline.

Now the cassette era even I was too young (if you all could imagine to know that era). It was 50/50 sales and airplay but there was no longevity because the release of a single and the amount of time radio would put it in high rotation seemed oddly off balance but I don't know enough about that situation to say too much.

Seems like digital and streaming eras are probably the most accurate representation of true hits once stunts are removed.

I wonder if there's ever going to be a perfect balance...probably never.

Well, keep the bundles coming if billboard allows it.

Not really. Even Fantasia and Taylor Hicks spent at least 2 weeks in the top 10 with their #1's

Kelly Clarkson - A Moment like this: 1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 5 - 9 - 11

Clay Aiken - This Is The Night: 1 - 1 - 3 - 8 - 17

Fantasia - I Believe: 1 - 6 - 18

Carrie Underwood - Inside Your Heaven: 1 - 3 - 4 - 10 - 17

Taylor Hicks - Do I Make You Proud:  1 - 3 - 14

TROLLZ: 1-30?  :rip:

TROLLZ is literally breaking records  :skull:

I am actually surprised BP is so high :clap3: good for her

anyways I would rather wait for the official BB charts since Simon is a bit of an ONH :eli:
