1 single is not equal to 1 album, and RIAA is very clear abut music equivalences, 10 singles are equal to 1 album and 1500 streams are equal to 1 album.

Why are you bringing up certified album units? Records sold = albums sold + singles sold and yes, Drake has sold more records in the US than all those acts I listed.

 

A single isn't equal to an album because the singles are in Platinum units, which is 150 million US streams for a Platinum certification. Don't be mad at me. You can check for yourself.

No artist in the last decade has been as dominant as Drake in the US. If he updates his album certifications, he's jumping to 35M albums sold in the US. Despite being the highest-certified digital singles artist, he's still very undercertified. Only 3 songs off his last album are certified and he has tons more across his entire discography that are undercertified.

He releases a lot of music.

 

His solo discography on Spotify currently consists of 5 studio albums, 4 "mixtapes", and 1 compilation album. All of this was basically released in the past decade, so the music is still fresh and current in people's minds, and we feel like we've grown up with Drake (he's basically released a full-length project almost every year since I was in middle school). 

 

I can't think of any of his contemporaries that have released even close to as much music as he has over the past 11-12 years.

Because record sales don't show us who is bigger artist. 

Is Ariana bigger artist than Madonna because she moved more "record sales"? No.

 I don't think this is the main reason why he charts as many albums weekly or is consumed as much as he is yearly in the U.S. Going through the list, 4 of the albums he currently has charting were released in or before 2017. Take Care was released almost 10 years ago. I think his music ages well and people keep streaming his old material. 

 

Yes, him being consistent with the music releases helps, but his older albums still charting proves that it isn't just his newer material being consumed.

This is true, and yeah, charting that many albums in a given week is definitely impressive. 

 

Take Care is one of my favorite albums of all time and I'm far more likely to listen to that or NWTS than any of his recent material. I guess because he's been so present over the past decade he has developed several, different pockets of fans that can enjoy any of his past music.

This is true. He's dipped in different styles of music over the course of his career and he's gained fans from each place. 

 

Anyone with a strong back catalog is impressive to me because it's very hard to keep people consuming an album that gets older as time passes. He pulls 3-4B streams yearly whether or not he releases any new music. That's very hard to do.

THIS. I hope Thank Me Later and IYRTITL chart again for at least a few weeks so they can both cross the 100-week mark (they're both at 90+ weeks so far). That would leave him with 7 albums with at least 100 weeks charting on the Billboard with Dark Lane Demo Tapes coming to join that list soon.
