Then her out of touch label was going to give her a video treatment of an animated Britney spinning around a record to appeal to kids only.

 

Britney came up with the idea more relatable to what kids really did which was have fun with friends after school, playing sports, music and goofing off.

 

She came up with the school girl outfit because she would wear school girls outfits with a tie to her auditions as a kid (there's a picture of it too when she was 8).

 

This singlehandedly OPENED the target audience for female teen pop stars.

 

instead of the normal kids and teens market, BOMT opened her up to Kids, teens, college kids, LBGT, soccer moms, horny dads, perverted non dads, and the black and latino market as she performed with rhythm and has a dancers body of hips, thighs and buns (not typical of the average white girl at that moment and back in the 80s and 90s they marketed them safe, not risque)

 

Her label had the standard contract for a teen female pop start 3 albums which she'd have one maybe two hits albums and then fade as the audience would grow tired.

 

By expanding her target audience and keeping things fresh and edgy she avoided that 2 multilplatinum album and then fade path.

 

They wanted her to be a teen natalie imbruglia after she was only able to get one hit, robyn failed to get more than 2 hits and xtina mulan soundtrack song failed to launch her career (back then they'd introduce people through soundtracks i.e. toni braxton, mary j blige etc.)

 

So after spice girls and hanson open the doors post biggie and tupac for a lighter poppier sound but they had no longevity, the game was looking for the RIGHT female to keep the teen pop movement along side BSB and Nsync.

She becomes the first female teen pop star to successful transition from teen to adult pop star

80s-

Debbie gibson only had 2 multiplatinum albums then flopped

Tiffany had a 4x platinum debut (highest at the time) then flopped

90s-

Brandy match tiffany's debut with a 4x platinum then had a 5x platinum follow up but then never went multiplatinum again as an adult

Aaliyah had 2 multiplatinum albums and then unfortunately her transition album was when she died and it didn't go multiplatinum until 2002.

Monica had 2 triple platinum albums but never went multiplatinum again as an adult.

Leann Rimes had a 6x platinum debut holding the record for highest, had a 3x platinum follow up and then her old label released material that went 2x plaitnum
