The Secret Life of Pets (Universal) was named the most "valuable" movie of 2016 after earning the studio a net profit of $374M.

It beat out other blockbusters' net profits such as

2. Deadpool (Fox) - $322M

3. Rogue One (Disney) - $319M

4. Finding Dory (Disney) - $296M

5. Zootopia (Disney) - $294M

How net profits are calculated:

Quote

When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn't about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&A, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV.
