When Zayn debuted at #1 was the competition this strong? I cant imagine it was. But then again he had the novelty of being the FIRST 1D member to release and 1D were more relevant then too. Plus his sound was still for a young audience. Harry is trying to reach a mature audience with his sound.

Nah. I believe that was when Bieber was playing hopscotch. Zayn had extreme sales advantage, but going up against Sorry/LY streams and AirPlay. Harry is mostly dealing with streams. So yeah it wasn't as strong but right now Ed just has a gross monopoly on radio. Would've regularly been declining on Pop.

Then of course yeah, Pillow was more digestible. I don't think Zayn has a leaving first advantage though. Harry's always been the one most figured would do the best solo. He's more likely to sell more albums than Zayn.

I'm not the one thet made the noise.  There were complaints, on social media and even in real newspaper, days before I said anything.

there are wtill complaints.

and rightfully so.

complaints were about photoshop line, not about the hook.

And even if they complain about the hook, it just means they don't get the song. Simple as that.

Here are the stats for the week when Zayn debuted at no.1 on Hot 100 with "Pillowtalk". It will be interesting for the sake of comparison:

- 267,000 downloads

- 22.3 million streams

- 17 million AI on radio

Should have clarified in your initial response.

But what exactly is the trend right now?

Is it urban music or are we at the tail end of the tropical sound

It's funny how the points each of these will have would be enough for #1 during some of the Cheap Thrills weeks.

Yeah, but hasn't the formula changed since Cheap Thrills was #1? It would be interesting to calculate what their points would've been with last year's formula and see if they would've beaten Cheap Thrills though, but even then there's the fact that Pandora wasn't included last year, so the songs now have inflated streaming figures compared to the figures that songs from last year had.

I'm down for That's What I Like topping the charts and then Something Just Like This taking over once the video drops. I'd also be down for iSpy pulling a Panda :dancehall:

Yeah, like Rock music making a overly delayed return to mainstream radio.

the new trend should be that starting summer 2017, taylor spends 52+ straight weeks in the t10.

Perception is everything, and usually all that counts in the GP.  They don't get it, don't get it. It's all just s song with lyrics that are misogynist.  Most people don't distinguish lyrics, and you expect them to separate out hook from verse?

it all comes down to great responsibility,,,

how tf it's impossible to listen to music and not distinguish hook from verse?

I doubt the video will give SJLT an extra push; it didn't happen with any of their singles post Closer
