Why is ITunes still being used as a barometer for success?

Songs shoot up to #1(like Megatron” and then freefall a few days later? Why are sites like PopCrave still getting giddy when something hits number 1 on iTunes? It literally means nothing. Hasn’t meant anything in some time

It's normally relied upon by bases who's fave hasn't transitioned well to the streaming era.

Unless your fave is Gaga where she slayed both with Shallow :foxaylove2:

It's still open and official charts still use it so until it's closed y'all are gonna have to take it

Sales are still counted for official charts so why wouldn't iTunes be relevant?

You can also have an idea of who has a healthy fanbase and who doesn't :fan:

the only people who use iTunes as a barometer of success are stans who favs flop on streaming mostly

ex. Stans of most pop artists and barbz

if anything that shouldn't be used/counted is youtube,it is completely random and can easily be manipulated with algorithms/playlisting

It matters if your song is selling well like shallow and OTR

Sales are important if you have a large and dedicated fan base.  They’re the deciding factor during very competitive weeks as well.  If the Hive was larger and purchased The Gift, Bey might have scored a #1, just like how Shallow beat Ariana because Liddos always buy Gaga’s music.

itunes as a barometer of success is mostly only used by pop stans whose fave(s) doesn't/don't do well on streaming services.

Plz people used to brag about ringtone sales and before that it was Hit Clips. If there’s a chart, people will brag about it.

It still CAN be relevant for when the song sells enough. Head Above Water teas.

Hitting #1 only to freefall hours later is not a good look. :skull: Only matters when a single/album can stick I guess.
