Why do people refer to Twitter as an "app"?

I see a lot of people on Twitter say "I hate this app" or something like that referring to Twitter and it feels kinda weird because when I think of an app I think of a platform exclusively used on mobile apps while Twitter started off as something used on desktop browsers and still has that function today. What do you guys think?

That's what it is. It's not a traditional web site. Even the website is built similarly to an app. Then there is the actual app.

It's dumb, I think of Twitter as a website because that's what it started as and that's what it is. You wouldn't call eBay an app even though they have one :rip:
