Artist X ended artist Y, do you believe in that?

For example, Mariah ended Whitney, Beyonce ended Mariah, Britney ended Madonna, Gaga ended Xtina, Ariana ended Selena and Demi, etc.

Do you believe in such theory? Discuss.

Not really because plenty of these artists still have/had success after the artist that "ended" them debuted. Also their respective career hiccups are often due to other factors outside of another artist's career.

Some of these artists are on different tracks and appeal to different segments, so maybe they aren't that good examples.

I think co-existence is possible and it makes more exciting chart battles (like Blur vs Oasis in the UK in 1996 or Roar vs Applause :eli: in 2013).

I am more inclined to believe that because X is experiencing personal issues / label issues or just produces the same uninteresting output, then artists Y and Z who are more talented or good looking or younger will just swoop in to take over. (E.g. Hilary Duff and Jesse McCartney experiencing various issues, thus allowing other pop girls and guys to swoop in and fill the void)

Xtina ended herself. Beyoncé didn’t end Mariah but she did end the whole bunch of R&B girls like Brandy, Christina Millian... with Crazy In Love.

R&B girls like Ciara, Cassie and Amerie were still successful in 2005/06 though.

OT: No.

No, only Artist X can end Artist X, with their decisions, whether they were self made or not

OT: No.

2 of them debuted in 2005/2006 and Amerie’s only major hit is a rip off of Crazy In Love so your point is?

Britney ended Madonna? :bibliahh: let's be real, all the times Madonna underperformed were by her own doing. And she was still selling very well during the Britney reign. COADF even went on to match (or outsell, idk for sure) ITZ, and American Life, which was undoubtedly a flop, sold more than Blackout :rip:

No, not really. I think stiff competition or being on the losing end of a rivalry makes things more difficult, but I can't think of any case where any one artist was the sole reason for the downfall of another artist. Not even a situation like 50 Cent and Ja Rule.
