This is how Wikipedia defines the 2010s in music. Agree?

So I was looking up "2010s in music" on Wikipedia and it's definition sent me. :deadbanana:

Quote

The melismatic vocals mainstream during the 1990s and 2000s in pop and contemporary R&B lost favor by mid-late 2009, as vocally lower key artists, including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift; Lady Gaga and Rihanna, started to outsell new releases by perennial melismatic favorites, Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera. By the mid-2010s, the style of vocals popular in indie pop have become immensely widespread among pop instrumentalists as they are commonly used by younger artists, like Lorde and Birdy.

Did they lie tho? "Vocally lower key artists" is one way to put it.

I think what they mean is that they don't belt and whistle through their songs which is true and while sounding shady, I don't think it actually is meant shady. Gaga for example is an amazing singer.

People who feel entitled to the idea that weaker vocalists don't deserve to outsell strong voiced ones solely because of the difference in vocal talent are annoying. Enjoy that **** music with big vocals I guess.

If Whitney can live by that rule, then it's good enough for the rest of us!

Gaga is factually a better vocalist than Christina, though.

I think Gaga is only there because during the time period they’re describing, she wasn’t known for her vocals back then even though her voice was still amazing.

As for some of the others I agree. We only listen to singers.

Lower key vocalist doesn't mean worse singers. Means a singer that sings in a lower key :rip:

the 2010s progressed, ballads weren't the norm in that time so does today not to say songs like that are bad by any means it's just the times we're living now. BUT if your fave is not included there then I'm sorry she has no impact. Katy, Gags, Riri and Taylor are the Fourfecta in the 10s. #Factsonly.
