Both smash hits.

Both attached to iconic movies.

Both are in iconic scenes.

Both Oscar winners.

Both sung by the artist of their generations.

Both classics that will stand the test of time.

Meh I don’t like comparing classics. Shallow is it’s own moment and smash, written by Gaga herself unlike MHWGO/Celine.

Yeah it kind of is, minus the IMPACT, POPULARITY and SALES.

Yes

Shallow is a different type of classic unlike many of the songs we call classics here.

Absolutely not. MHWGO will be forever tied to Titanic, which was a far bigger film and cultural moment than ASIB.

Shallow and ASIB were big, but let's not even begin to suggest that they're comparable to one of the biggest films of all time.

There's no need to wait.

My Heart Will Go On was a mainstream event and a household tune in 1997-98 all over the world in the vein of Baby One More Time, Livin la Vida Loca, Macarena, Despacito, Shape of You, I Will Always Love You, Hips Don't Lie, etc. Even people who didn't watch the movie, buy the soundtrack, listen to the radio, follow pop culture, etc. were extremely familiar with the song.

Shallow is just a successful song from a successful movie.

And it would have stayed at #1 (and charted) much longer, but only 685,000 physical copies were available. They were trying to sell the soundtrack (30+ million) and Celine's album Let's Talk About Love (31+ million).

Kinda insane it was #1 for only two weeks. With today's rules it woulda been #1 for at least 15 weeks.

Oh yeah definetly. It had a limited physical release in the US i think which caused its chart run to be a lot weaker but it was number one on radio for ten weeks alone. It could have very well been the longest running number one in the US.
