Was 10-12 the worst period in Top 40 history?

Back when everything was the same EDM'd bubblegum garbage. Every song was basically catered to drunk sorority girls or else you got no airplay.

Before and after that time, Top 40 was a good mix of rnb, pop, rock, country, etc. I'm glad we've gotten back to the variety.

No. Old Town Road is the worst song of the entire 2010's. Deal with it

Also what variety? when every song on the chart is sung by a rapper or a rapper wannabe

I keep forgetting that was a hit :skull:

Any time a single trend completely swallows the market it's tragic. The past year is a perfect example.

No. Personally for me, that was some better times.

Most of the music I like these days doesn't even reach Top 40 on the Hot 100, so at least I liked a good chunk that got there in those years.

During TFM/BTW era?

You must think about about that one again.

No, 2015 was the worst year with 2019 and 2018 being runner-ups. Yes, pop music was homogenized back then, but at least the songwriters knew how to craft well-constructed melodies and hooks. And the majority of the biggest artists from 10-12 could actually sing live unlike the garbage we get today, hence award shows dying bc no1curr

Definitely not 2010-2011, but 2012-2013 (up until the Fall) was particularly dismal and depressing.

Not really, 2013-2014 was way worse, the music was basically recycled beats from the previous 2 years.

I think 2016/2017 was worse.  I’m sorry but tropical house was a lame fad.  I feel like things have been slowly improving since then.

It was the best. Fun AF! :gaycat4:

The worst period was 2018-2017 (too many uninspired urban songs) :cm:

2010-2011 was really fun to follow in the moment as a pop fan, but most of it ended up being quickly disposable and aged terribly in the long run. But it was definitely a trip in the present.

2012 was terrible.

2013 had some iconic moments in pop this decade (Macklemore, Miley, Lorde, Roar vs Applause), but overall meh.

2014 was the WORST year this decade period. I remember enjoying so little music that year. The only benefit was I went back to older years and expanded my taste.  But the actual good music in 2014 was few and far between.

2015 was pretty good, 2016 was AMAZING (best year for music this decade imo)

2017-2018 were nice.

This year's been okay so far.
