The CW-Netflix Deal Not Being Renewed, With Network’s New Shows To Be Shopped Individually

batwoman-nancy-drew-katy-keene.jpg?w=100

EXCLUSIVE: When the first output deal between Netflix and CW parents CBS and Warner Bros was announced in 2011, it was hailed as groundbreaking and, with its $1 billion windfall, a lifeline that may have helped save the then money-losing upstart network. The pact, re-uped by both sides in 2016 with some modifications, was up again this spring, and I hear it is not being renewed.

the-cw-2019-logo.jpg?w=280&h=158I hear the three new CW series — Batwoman, Nancy Drew and Riverdale spinoff Katy Keen— are being shopped for streaming deals individually by their respective studios. Batwoman, part of the DC Arrowverse on the CW, is solely owned by Warner Bros TV, and Nancy Drew by CBS TV Studios, Katy Keen is produced and distributed by WBTV, with financial participation of CBS Studios under the companies’ joint-venture agreement to co-produce CW series not based on owned IP.

Riverdale and Dynasty are only the "success" they are because of Netflix, All American was also only renewed because of strong Netflix numbers

This doesn't bode well for the future of The CW and their shows

i am not surprised since every media company wants their own streaming service, we need a company to rise from the ashes and create a bundle

Sabrina is a Netflix show, nothing to do with The CW, it was also renewed for 20 episodes earlier this year

yup, it's a bigger blow for Netflix since CW shows is a huge part of their appeal for worldwide audiences.

Why do you guys think Netflix is rushing to put out all these original content all while increasing their prices? Because they knew things like this would happen. They knew that the sleeping giants would soon be catching on and begin to create their own streaming platforms and start snatching shows off Netflix's platform. Imagine if Netflix hadn't began to expand their library with original content.

They knew this was bound to happen. Which is why they’ve advertised only their netflix originals. Netflix Originals bring the most viewership anyways

They arguably do have some of the best shows Sabrina, Stranger Things, Sex Education, YOU, the list goes on and on. Netflix Originals are it, stop trying to be edgy by disliking them, because stats prove that their a success :deadbanana2:

it's typical for any huge studio tbh. Netflix just don't want to hide it for whatever reason

They also have The Umbrella Academy, La Casa de las Flores and La Casa de Papel and they all bring lots of viewers worldwide.

Let's not forget they also saved Lucifer and they have Orange is the New Black.

Black Summer was also great.

this is gonna be bad for both parties tbh

non-american fans use netflix to stream CW shows and american netflix users wouldn’t know these shows existed cause no one uses the CW :rip: as someone above me said netflix was the lifeline for Riverdale and Dynasty

Well it's over. This is such a dumb move for the CW because Netflix is the only reason why their shows become global succeses. Good luck trying to get that social media buzz now.

That doesn't they won't have the shows anymore, they're shopping individually. Which is actually a good idea.

Let me finish Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

I usually watch the early-first seasons of most CW shows and lose interest after that :cm:

Spoiler

The 100

The Flash

Riverdale

Gossip Girl

90210

Hart of Dixie

The Game

So, that means Dynasty and Riverdale also won't be airing weekly on Netflix outside of America?

Well, that means that Dynasty's third season will definitely be the last one.
