'Game of Thrones' ratings: penultimate episode is most-watched in series history

750x422

The episode was watched by 12.48 million viewers, which handily trumps the previous record of 12.07 million, held by the season seven finale.

HBO will reveal multi-platform viewership for Sunday's episode later today, but given the initial figures, it's highly likely that "The Bells" will be the most-watched "Thrones" episode of all time across all platforms (linear, HBOGO and HBO NOW). The figure it has to beat is 17.8 million viewers, which was posted by episode three, "The Long Night." The previous gross audience high was 17.4 million viewers for the premiere episode of season 8, titled "Winterfell," which has since surpassed 38 million viewers, according to HBO.

In terms of the final season to-date, the Battle of Winterfell which took up the entirety of "The Long Night" is in second place in initial viewership with 12.02 million, followed by the premiere and episode four, which were tied at 11.8 million total viewers.

There was always going to be a giant discord with 1 Billion fans watching. If Dany had stayed the same, all her haters would fume. There was no winning.

Too bad the final season seems rushed :rip:

It was always going to break records, so will the final ep.

That doesn't mean anything :rip: People didn't know they'll **** up this much, especially those not on Reddit/Twitter/ATRL etc.

Anyway it was still one of the best achievements ever in TV, I mean jeez the shots, CGI everything was INSANELY good.

They ruined the story BIG time, so that ruins it all.

Not the worst episode being the most watched one :skull:

This is obvious though. People have invested almost a decade into this show. No matter what, we will finish to the end and it's the closing chapter to the most iconic TV show this century. Despite the bad reviews, everyone is going to tune in next week to see how it ends.

It's the aftermath that matters. D&D have completely ruined their reputation, the recurrent sales of the show/season will be shot, and its legacy will now be more about its success than it's quality. Which is all unfortunate except the D&D part. They deserve to be unemployed.

D&D must be laughing at the fact that they made us watch 1h20 of a dragon spitting fire.

I agree with you, still, the writing is just awful. The endings they chose, the way they ignored the characters' development. And watching them talk about it in the Behind The Episode like "we know this is how it had to end"... even Kit and Emilia admitted the ending is disappointing

This! I seriously don't get the hate... Yes it was rushed, but it was unexpected and GoT-ish.
