‘Lego Movie 2’ Breaks Down To $31M+; ‘What Men Want’ Solid With $18M+ In Another Blasé B.O. Weekend

Quote

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part has dropped significantly with a $8.5M first day (down from the $11M we saw at midday), and a No. 1 $31.1M opening weekend. While the result is +52% over Ninjago‘s $20.4M, it’s down a huge 55% from the first 2014 movie, and -41% from Lego Batman. It’s also far below those $50M-$55M projections from early this week. What went amiss here with a film that has an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score? Warner Bros. released too many Lego movies, too close. They released two spinoffs in 2017 alone. What was once a novel sense of humor, has worn out. Take those two spinoffs away, and we might be looking at a higher opening here for The Second Part.

They waited 5 years between sequels and diluted the reputation of the quality of the brand identity too much with Ninjago. If it was just Batman it would’ve been fine.

Oop. Oh well, I didn't really love the first one anyway. Lego Batman surprisingly snatched me though - give us a sequel to that!

No promo + didn't look NEARLY as good as the first

Wtf did they think would happen? This should've been released in 2016.

. All tea.

I loved the first one, it was original, it made sense, it was funny.

This was a push for something nobody asked for.

Should off kept it.

The spin-offs were unwatchable and the original was immaculate. I’m shocked because you normally serve taste :eli:

You’re wrong on so many levels. “Should’ve” or “should have,” love :heart2:

OT: Welp, I guess I’ll go see it in theaters then. Was gonna wait for Netflix.

The movie was high quality....not to the level of the original but a worthy sequel.  But I agree that they waited too long for a sequel.
