It has been so long since we have been able to equate a success or a love story with high art or artists that we may well have forgotten how. And now, with A Star is Born’s eight nominations for Academy Awards, the problem is likely to be exposed. “Bradley is a star.” “He’s young… he’ll have plenty of opportunities.” If this, as I suspect, explains outcomes in other awards voting, voters will have certainly missed the point. This isn’t Bradley Cooper’s opportunity, it’s theirs to appreciate the depth and value of this film before its legacy outlasts their chance to participate in it.

...

In these silly-ass soul damaging times, a film like A Star is Born brings people together without saccharine, sugar, or salesmanship. It is the achievement of one artist who had the courage to stand naked and jump from the edge of a vertical cliff, bringing his whole cast and crew with him, and simultaneously catch their fall. It’s a triumph.

This is what inspires and encourages actors to remember what it is to operate as a character in the real world. To characterize without smoke and mirrors. To deeply move an audience with a human experience, and all that while supporting excellence among an entire cast and crew. Cooper, Gaga and Elliott should own the acting category and the film would do the academy a service.

...

In a fair world, A Star is Born sweeps the awards. It’s just such a gift. Clear minds and hearts cannot possibly deny it its due. It’s over and over again one of my favorite films of all time, harkening back to the essential filmmaking of Hal Ashby.

...

A Star is Born is simply everything that movies should be. If we honor anything, this should be it.

He spilled tea!

The film is honestly super raw and doesn't rely on any gimmicks.  It has resonated with people because of how REAL it feels, and the people involved displayed an amazing amount of talent.

Bradley deserves more recognition this film season tbh, he hasn't gotten enough.

Lmao they’re all silent on these receipts :toofunny2:

Anyway, Sean Penn is a “retired” actor, failed novelist, and the last film he directed was the critical failure/white savior drama ‘The Last Face’, one of the WORST entries in the Cannes competition in recent memory. He is not a barometer of taste nor does he speak for the whole industry. This is just an op ed by a wife beater.

not monsters...people born after 2000 trying to deny a story they have no idea about...just because Sean Penn is stanning their fave's movie :bibliahh:

Child...everyone knows this happened. Not only her brother mentioned it. There are police reports about it from that time. Damn it, one of Madonna's songs on LIke A Prayer is LITERALLY about domestic abuse. And on the video for Oh Father, you can see hints of her leaving an abusive relationship like when she left her dad decades before. Basically her saying she was choosing men similar to her father in terms of violence :deadbanana2:

It's like this tweet says:

Madonna only denied this 2 years ago because Sean was campaigning for something and this was starting to come out again. It was all damage control from her part.

Your post is incorrect. There are not really police reports of all, and Madonna denied in 1989 and 2015.

Till death do us part is not autobiographical, and she said in the RS interview that it's fiction. The end of Madonna and Sean's marriage was both fault. Stop posting tabloid fake news.

And the dumb whoderlust quoting a book where M is portrayed as the worst person of the world and talentless.

Ot: King Sean can stan whatever he wants.
