Bruno is not considered a male of color lmao. Yall stay trying to squeeze Bruno and The Weeknd into these R&B/Urban discussions when the black community doesn't really use like THAT. How are they "crossover" when they are majorly pop supported and have been from the jump. It is and was Chris. Period and yall are going to have to deal lol

Sis Bruno is Puerto Rican and Filipino. How is he not considered a male of color? :skull: He may not be considered black, but he is undoubtedly as colored as one can get. The black community accepting him into "urban" is another discussion entirely, but let's not try and erase someone's ethnic roots just because you don't like them :dancehall:

The keyword is: by the Urban community lol. Bruno is clearly not white. But he definitely isn't grouped with other male singers "of color" in terms of Urban music

Luv him though

this  is everyone in our world of billions, never use everyone in statement you will always get clocked girl

jsut as many of them were saying usher

Bobby literally said Chris' name after Usher (as everyone who has chimed in has considering those are the only two valid options). Did you not watch the video...or.... :deadbanana4:

And I said everyone who has weighed in IN THE HIP HOP/URBAN INDUSTRY

And then after that he literally said. Chris Brown could have it too :skull: CB and Usher aren't even the same gen anyway...

No they haven't...considering the entire discussion is literally about THIS generation since that is what Jacquees said to start all of it in the first place

But ok girl.

Like I said, you can literally go to Jacquees original post about it and every single comment says and tags Chris 💀

But what does that have to do with him being a person of color though? He's mixed with TWO ethnicities that are both brown in color. He is 100%, unequivocally a poc and there is nothing anyone can do or say that will ever change that fact. Whether people like his music or approve of his musical style is completely irrelevant to that fact.

But it isn't the crossover Urban crowd if he was never really considered Urban by that crowd to begin with :skull:

He is considered Urban by mainstream crowd standards but the Weeknd and Bruno are not staples in the Urban community. They do not perform at Urban festivals. Has any of them ever performed at a Summer Jam or a Powerhouse? They are not most voted at Urban award shows. They do not promote on Urban platforms. They are not heavily covered by urban media, blogs etc. Urban radio stations, etc. They are not part of the culture. They are mainstream/consisered pop boys sister.

This is opinion and not fact all over again.

He has won/been nominated for BET Awards, MOBO Awards, ASCAP R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, Soul Train Awards, NAACP Awards, etc.......as well as Billboard and Grammy Awards in the Urban Categories (but those categories aren't as clear cut).

Girl. Nobody said they don't get played or bopped to EVER :biblio:

But generally speaking, they are not considered by the Urban comm as R&B dudes lol. And never were. cry me a river was huge on Urban radio. Justin Timberlake is still not an R&B singer to the black comm. They are only considered R&B again by the mainstream crowd lol. (Aka people like you. exhibit A) and it's not really an opinion. theres a reason not one person in Urban music mebtioned Bruno throughout this entire R&B king debate (and he most def would be if he was looked at that way but he simply is not). Even Trey Songz was more mentioned. And he's def not bugger than Bruno BUT he is a bigger name in the URBAN comm. It speaks for itself lol

The Weeknd is only considered R&B by Urban Radio, Urban Awards shows, co-signs from other Urban artists, and the list goes on. (Aka people like you who actually know music. exhibit A) theres a reason not one person in Urban music mentioned Bruno throughout this entire R&B king debate (and he most def would be if he was looked at that way but he simply is not). Even Trey Songz was more mentioned. And he's def not bigger than Bruno BUT he is a bigger name in the URBAN comm. It speaks for itself lol

Fixed. (*That's also why Trey Songz's last efforts from Tremaine: The Album have stalled on Urban Radio since Slow Motion in 2015?  )

It's funny being called a member of the "mainstream crowd" when you're literally fighting for Chris Brown who is technically the R&B/Pop singer starter-pack for any label. (Jason Derulo, Tinashe, Natalie La Rose, and Justin Bieber were marketed after him ~ not really Usher because they don't have the vocals so a ballad was out of the question for a debut single).

You still haven't addressed why The Weeknd wouldn't be considered an Urban artist when his first string of singles leading up to his duet w/ Ariana Grande was EXCLUSIVELY marketed to Urban radio. He started Urban and branched out/crossed over afterwards while still keeping loyalty with Urban Radio. Destiny's Child -----> Beyonce, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, SZA, Ashanti, Big Sean, Tyga, Nelly, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J Cole, Usher, and Chris Brown have all done the same thing radio-wise. (All urban radio mainstays for the last 15 years)

(Trey Songz has tried to branch out, but it only worked for like 3 singles (Say Aah, Bottoms Up, and Touchin' Lovin).

Bruno Mars, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake did the opposite. Their debut singles were marketed to Pop/Rhythmic Radio and worked backwards over time.

I'm not talking about radio or music. I'm talking about demographic. Fanbase. And how they are looked at TO THE URBAN COMMUNITY. What part of this are you failing to comprehend? :deadbanana4: I never said that black people do not listen to them ever. I'm saying that when they talk about R&B guys they are normally not in the conversation because they are seen as pop by the urban community regardless of how many songs of theres they like or listen to. Trey Songz could never have another hit on urban radio and he will still be considered far more of an R&B dude than them. It's about the market and crowd that they cater to not necessarily the sound.

Bruno is a man of color. Literally. You don't have to be specifically of Black descent.

Girl...they are not staples in the black community period lmao. Therefore they simply do not apply. Both Bruno and The Weeknd are considered, by black people/the urban audience as pop artists. They aren't seen as R&B boys to anyone except the white/mainstream audience. Yes black people do LIKE Bruno...in the same way they like Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. But they are not considered R&B guys in the same realm as Usher, CB, Trey Songz etc. to black people lol. It has nothing really to do with sound or charts than it has to do with core fanbase/demographic. I'm not saying black people don't **** with them. But they aren't considered Urban artists really...to the Urban community. They're pop sis lol

Justin Bieber and JT are not  anywhere near on the same level in the Black community :rip:

Did I say they were? Lol.

The point was that they are both liked by the black community but still not considered R&B guys regardless of how urban leaning and accepted their music may be.

Justin Bieber isn't really liked by the urban community...he has no big urban hits. Besides I'm The One, which peaked at #11 on urban radio. JT done went top 5 multiple times.

As detestable as he is, he is so damn naturally talented. This video is full of natural charisma. He would've been a total superstar.
