Spotify will soon concede on one of its most controversial policies — that all music on its platform be available to both free and paid users. As it works to renegotiate its now expired licensing deals with music labels, Spotify has agreed to restrict some new releases to its premium tier, The Verge has learned.

As a paid subscriber, I'm here for this especially if it means even more content. I've noticed some artists that I listen to have limited some of their songs on the service over the last year or so.

Does an album get more money if it is listened to by a paid user? What's the point exactly?

That's likely a licensing issue.

Good. We should get some benefits as paid customers. It's really not that much money.

There have been articles saying this since 2015. My response has been the same each time– I'll believe it when I see it. :celestial5:

Most likely, yes. There's reasons why some labels/artists pay Spotify dust currently.

People are more likely to pay for Spotify

Spotify has about 150m users, (80% are free)

and yet total ad revenue made up just 10% of spotifys earnings, it's important they convert listeners to paid subscribers
