OPENING

 

Hello,

 

I’m lhdang2000. Most of you know me from the Games section. This is my 5^th year in ATRL and my 5^th year doing the list on ATRL.

           

A month ago, I upgraded my computer, which was supposed to be something happy, but during the file transfer, my iTunes library file got damaged, which caused me to lose all play counts on iTunes. Needless to say, I was traumatized by that. My music library was something very important to me as it grew up with me over the past five years. And it was all gone.

           

So, I decided that I would not do a best-of this year. With me being a freshman in college, having a part-time job, I thought I did not have any time for this. But I still feel like something is missing. After all, I have made so many connections with so many different people through my best-of. Not only do I get to make friends with other ATRLers, but I was also introduced to a lot of different songs from artists that I like to artists that I have never discovered before.

           

Last week, while I was driving, I put my top 50 songs of 2017 playlist on, and I really enjoyed that. Then it hit me, this has become a tradition for me to accomplish throughout my teenage years. It is not just about ATRL, but it is also for me to have something to reflect myself over the past year. My life has always been heavily associated with music, and this is proof of my growth over the year. And I was inspired to start my best of again.

           

This year, I compile my list very differently. I did not use my play counts as an indication anymore. Instead, I looked at each of them as a story of how much I felt connected to the song. Because I believed that emotions played a very important part of one’s life, and strangely enough, they are very hard to explain so this year, I will not explain any of my picks, instead, I hope the people who visit my best-of will get to see what I have listened throughout the year, and maybe, they will be inspired to add new songs to their playlist like I have been doing the last four years.

           

As an eighteen-year-old, I believe that my music taste has changed a lot this year. I feel young, free, and empowered, so you will see a lot of upbeat tracks as the list comes to an end. I have also started using Apple Music more effectively to find a lot of tracks from artists that I have never known before, and they will make huge impacts on my chart.

This reminds me of when I one of my old computers broke broken in 2011 and since I didn't know OneDrive or DropBox were a thing I lost two novels I was writing. Sure, they were far from being the best thing ever but I putting my all into writing them. And they were all gone. I never tried writing anything longer than an essay after that.

Also reminds me of when Disney deleted my first YouTube channel because the fandubs posted there were copyright infringment. I was a dumb kid that didn't care about copyright. After all, I did credit Disney on the description. That's enough, right?

I command you for ranking 200 songs based solely on impact. I know my list would've been a mess if I even attempted to do that.
