... Just like how Madonna filmed Take A Bow as an audition for Evita?

Quote

Madonna requested that Haussman give the video a Spanish theme because, at the time, she was lobbying for the role of Eva Perón in the film version of Evita. She subsequently sent a copy of the video to director Alan Parker as a way of "auditioning" for the role. Madonna eventually won the role of Perón.[

If you were Steven Spielberg, would you cast her as Maria?

Thinking Of You

She didn’t get it if that was the audition. She doesn’t have the vernacular to carry a big score such as West Side Story

I think that she is already on lock for the part. The package she brings to the table for Spielberg's pet project is truly hard to beat right now, considering the things he wants brought to the film. He wants this to be more than a vanity project, he wants it to be both commercially and artistically successful. You gotta realize, Spielberg is coming to the realistic end of his career and he wants to go out with a bang. He will continue to work as long as he is able, but past 80 is difficult for anyone. hell, even Eastwood is calling it a day. A reboot / remake of such an iconic film / play that both makes serious coin AND garners those Oscar statues is what he really wants here. Camila brings the same Ingénue qualities of the originals star , plus she's actually a rarely gifted singer, is authentically latina, and has charisma and stage presence that is very very rare. Just look at the "ghost" details of her performance in "Consequences", or the many characters she played in "Havana" . If she isn't already locked in, I would be amazed. My best guess is they are silent about her casting till after next years Grammy Awards. She's gonna be a multiple nominee, and regardless of whether she wins or not, she will have massive exposure. Plus if he gave her the part now, in the open, it would possibly hurt her Grammy chances. Smart people in the entertainment industry plan things, they don't just dump them. Look at every long term successful person out there. Talent gets you short term gain. Smarts gets you the gold ring
