Youtubers scamming mentally ill people

The biggest youtubers such as Shane Dawson, Philip DeFranco ect. have been busy lately promoting BetterHelp service. It's an app where you get online

counseling. Even though the app claims it uses licensed, board-accredited therapists, there are allegations that they don't run background checks on their therapists. Furthermore youtubers are allegedly getting as much as $100 per each new subscriber which was using their affiliate link. There are also negative reviews from customers who claim their therapists are disinterested, late to their online appointments ect. They also allegedly offer a free 7 day trial for which they ask your credit card info but then you immediately get billed up front for the services.

UPDATE:

BetterHelp is now a confirmed scam. Directly from BetterHelp TOS:

"We do not control the quality of the Counselor Services and we do not determine whether any Counselor is qualified to provide any specific service as well as whether a Counselor is categorized correctly or matched correctly to you.

You should never rely on or make health or well-being decisions which are primarily based on information provided as part of the Counselor Services. Furthermore, we strongly recommend that you will consider seeking advice by having an in-person appointment with a licensed and qualified professional."

Youtubers which were advertising BetterHelp as an alternative to professional counseling were putting their subscribers in danger, as BetterHelp doesn't guarantee professional help.

Furthermore there are allegations that a lot of affiliate links from youtubers are connected with Rouge Rocket, a Philip DeFranco's company. Also youtubers get as much as $200 for each new client which was using their affiliate link, not $100 as firstly reported.

Not surprising. Youtube nowadays is basically just a platform for people to scam others and post clickbait thumbnails to gain views.

Not all are like this, but this phenomena is incredibly common nowadays compared to 2011.

And all of our faves got into bed with Pepsi Co, McDonald's, Sony, etc, etc, and people don't seem to complain too much about that.

Scamming people who are already vulnerable and may need professional help is very dangerous. Especially keeping in mind that most of their audience is very young.

$100 for each new subscriber is a very good service.

The ones that make whole videos about their (supposed) mental state just to plug that service are the worst. So transparent.

Which is exactly what Coke and Pepsi and McDonald's do a global basis.

Sorry, but this isn't anything to get outraged over to me.

@OT this is basically what YouTube is nowadays. People making stupid videos and shilling **** to their subscribers while pretending they care about them.

The YTers are not “scamming”  people. If BetterHelp is a scam, the yters are simply uninformed and promoting it. In a way they are scammed too. Stop buying into this ott anti youtuber propaganda because it is just promoting the idea that only people in the mainstream media should have a voice in the entertainment industry

It's weird how some ppl claim yters are just unimportant nobodies yet want to hold them to higher standers than they do celebrities.

I've always found this Better Help thing very sketchy tbh. And Youtuber shouldn't be giving people counseling pointers just because they're big on Youtube. It should come from licensed people or people who are actually using the service. It's such a gross act from these Youtubers.

Shane is truly a pig nowadays, hungry for money and fame. Can we cancel him already?

This is sad, but these Youtubers probably didn't know how poor this BetterHelp thing was. They're not 100% innocent of course, it is their own fault for not doing more research into something they're advertising, however, I don't think this is quite the same as them actively and intentionally scamming people. If anything it's this BetterHelp company that's scamming both the Youtubers and their viewers.
