The iconic.

The classic.

Ahead of its time.

Underrated.

Michelle Williams

"We Break the Dawn" (#47)

#47

:jonny:

So close to the top 40

Chanté Moore

"Straight Up" (#11)

Chanté Moore previously charted in 1992 with "Love's Taken Over" (#54) and her cover of Deniece Williams' "Free" and The Commodores' "Sail On" (#69) but in 2000 she went all the way to #11 with the Jermaine Dupri bop "Straight Up".

LeToya

"Torn" (#45)

LeToya's 2006 breakout debut after her and LaTavia's girl group Anjel failed to take off following their dismissal from Destiny's Child. "Torn" hit #45 in the UK and helped her debut album debut at #1 in the US where the single went to #31 on the Hot 100

Teddy Pendergrass and Whitney Houston

"Hold Me" (#44)

Whitney's debut release with Teddy in 1984 hit #44 in the UK, fairing similarly in the US where it went to #46 on the Hot 100.

The Supremes (post-Diana and Florence)

"Up the Ladder to the Roof" (#6)

The debut single by the new Supremes feat. original Mary Wilson and new lead singer Jean Terrell alongside Flo's 1967 replacement Cindy Birdsong, got off to an incredible start when their first release outperformed Diana's going top 10 in the US (#10) and UK (#6).

Deborah Cox

"Sentimental" (#34)

Considered the second coming of Whitney (who she later sang with on "Same Script, Different Cast"), Deborah Cox's lead single hit the top 40 in 1995.
