How is Halsey getting such good updates when she's so low on callouts?

It's basically a Rihanna song (I love Halsey so no shade), but I mean that it's obviously more urban-leaning of a song. Songs with these types of sounds / vibes never do well on pop callouts cause the typical people they survey for them are super averse to anything remotely urban, but radio will keep supporting it if it does well on all other metrics.

But it's literally Needed Me, which peaked at #16 on pop radio, while this is at #10 right now. Needed Me's main airplay was from Rhythmic and Urban, where it both hit #1, while Now or Never is getting no support from there. Why is pop supporting this more than Needed Me, even though it has abysmal callout scores and it's performing worse than it on consumption metrics?

Cause it's basically a Rihanna song without Rihanna's ~overt blackness~ to push away white audiences? Pop audiences are overtly white and how they treat non-white singers is gross and so Halsey being white-passing comes into play, really. She has more free-room to do certain types of music without being stereotyped negatively. I'm not sure how to make it clearer, sis. I'm happy it's doing well, but yeah, it doing better than NM is kinda gross.

Now or never is more pop friendly than Needed Me

and it's not explicit (unlike NM)

Color has 0 to do with this...yall acting like Rihanna doesn't have a string of smashes on Pop (Work and What's My Name) both went top 10 there

The simple fact is that Halsey's song is more radio and pop friendly lyrically :cm:

This. People pulling the race card again is absolutely disgusting. Stop living in the 50's.

Work is not the song to claim pop loves Rih when the format was super reluctant to play it and basically had to cause it was obvious the public loved it and, even then, it peaked at like.. #7 while going #1 on Rhythmic and Urban? Rih & Bey got shafted by pop the moment they started to do more urban-leaning music and that's just facts.

"NON is more pop-friendly!!". It's the same song, production-wise. :rip:

Work (from the same era) and WMN are both urban tracks that went top 10...which nullifies your claim

Rihanna is not the artist you can claim suffers on Pop because of her blackness and urban sound...she actually went further than most urban acts could ever dream about...shes been doing urban her entire career

In fact...i remember when Work came out and some Navy were attacking me because I said I don't see it going far on the format but they responded by saying "this is Rihanna we're talking about"

Actually, BL has the BB record, but Happy has the MB record. There was a significant period of time in the Summer of 2014 where the Top 3 on AI -- Happy, All Of Me, and Dark Horse -- all exceeded 200 M on MB AI.

If you really want to talk about race here, remember Halsey is also biracial. So that nullifies the "color" card.

Assuming Kworb is MB AI, Cruise reached a peak of ~97M AI overall.

kworb: x

Thank you for looking this up. Airplay was Cruise's weakest metric. Even though the remix went Top 10 at Top 40 by spins, its audience total was about 20 M less than the other songs in the Top 10, and several songs below Cruise in spins were nonetheless well ahead in impressions. I think Cruise peaked at 8 on BB HRS, 5 on BB HSS, and 2 on BB HDS. I guess the biggest T 40 stations just didn't give FGL & Nelly much love.

"Color card" ffs :rip: Halsey IS also a white-passing mixed person, so it doesn't change anything. If some of y'all really think the prejudices that impact our world don't have any influence at all in one of the most consumed forms of media despite having obvious effects on tv, film, etc....

That's probably out of reach. Though they have a lot of room to grow on Pop, not so much on HAC. They are already peaked on Alternative. And other formats don't have much audience.
