Here’s a B.B. article. It does t say which albums started it but has a bit of history.

more interestingly only 20-30 percent redeem.

thanks. So Kenny started it.

I remember Prince's 2004 run it was so bipolar, though. Top 20 one week 60s the following week then boost right back up to top 20 1-2 weeks later.

I'm not sure she can win this one...unless Psycho pulls through during album release week

If a song dedicated to Mariah and Britney breaks the record, then I'll be fine.

It's better than song of the summer that no1curr about now and I don't care who's feelings are hurt about this comment

A drake song is bound to take it at some point so his dedication to Britney/Mariah is much appreciated.

In Britney/Mariah's plan, we trust

Then it’s just as djssymob says, a whole lot of bitching about bundles for the sake of bitching,

It’s bitching for the sake of the integrity of the chart... Something you bitch about every other week with about 18 stuck-in-the-past posts about streaming that nobody wants to read, but here we are!

Hmm, 92m. @ChartsFan, updates on your definitely not above 80m/below 50m prediction for next week? :fan:

Look Alive is going to be a smash all the way to Summer.

Losing about ten percent streams per week, as he did this week, will put him under 80m streams for the tracking week starting March 9.

Not when it would need to fall at least 15% to be under 80m.... and are you still sticking to him falling 47% this coming tracking week?

There's no sense in entertaining whether a song will tie/beat One Sweet Day/Despacito until probably week 13+ regardless of how strong it is.  A strong debut/music video effect/etc... can come out of nowhere very fast.  A song pulling 600+ weeks now could very well still be getting 350+ weeks on Week 13 but that's susceptible to big single drops and such.

Could we really have predicted what Rockstar's last week at #1 would be like 3 weeks in advance?  We didn't really expect Perfect's Remix would rocket it to #1 that week.  Could we really have predicted what Shape of You's last week at #1 would be like 3 weeks in advance?  We didn't really know how strong HUMBLE. was coming in until it actually came in.  Etc...

We were kind of spoiled by Despacito having a pretty obvious end-date for its run at #1 with Taylor's drop date given to us a few weeks before.  But that's not really the norm.

The next hit is always right around the corner, we just usually don't know when we're reaching that corner until we get there when it comes to extended 5+ week #1s.

I’m tired of the race to “break the record” lol. Plenty of songs have deserved to break that record since OSD (no tea no shade to Mariah personally but I hate that song and imo it’s forgotten).  Uptown Funk should’ve snatched back in Early 2015.

Having a good selling tour does not indicate your current music is popular. Especially when you're a nostalgia act.

Not when you're still releasing music and touring, that's not a nostalgia act, that's a current act. A nostalgia act is a pejorative term for an act that has not released music for a huge amount of time and mainly had short-lived success. It's still all-around shallow to say. An artist/group/band with a huge trajectory deserves respect, especially when they can fill up venues that acts that debuted recently and have hits can't even fill and go to countries they can't even go. The album originally went #1 so it actually means their current music is popular so your whole post is nonsense.

Fix that ageism, it's a toxic mentality.

....Because it also had tour bundles that week.

Still releasing music does not mean you cannot be a nostalgia act. A nostalgia act refers to someone who's general career activity currently is built off their legacy and past success, and not their current role in music today or having current hits.

Bon Jovi's successful tour is due to their legacy, and the bundles that spurred the album to #1 during debut week and this week were because people bought tickets due to their legacy/nostalgia. Not because their current project was desired.

So you're saying that acts that have fans that bought tickets from their same era twice don't have any merit? Katy Perry had a huge era with 'PRISM' and that's just her previous era, the 'Witness' (which I do dig btw) era has struggled to sell tickets hence the big discounts. Are you also invalidating the taste of adults/older people?

Are you implying that the same person that liked them in the 80s somehow has their taste expired and the fact that they still like them now is invalid? What difference does it have with younger acts that also do bundles? Do you think all of your faves could pull enough ticket sales from the same era to send their album to #1? Having some hits 30 years ago doesn't guarantee you will sell tickets now.

People, actual people, like them now. They're a bit older, but they like them in the present, enough to buy their tickets which are way more expensive than an album. Are they nostalgia humans? Their taste is less valid than a 19-year-old? Tons of acts get sales off their name alone, young and old, not everyone that has big 1st-week album sales already listened to the single/singles already released from the album. The popularity and legacy that Bon Jovi built happened to last more than 30 years, you sure have faves that haven't even got to 5 much less 10. Let's see if they get there.

Seriously, fix the ageism, you'll loathe yourself when you get to their age. You'll think your existence is just nostalgia.
