Slay A Bit Words: The Merriam Webster Dictionary Rate

deathmonkey87

Recommended Posts

The English language has had an amazing role in the course of English language pop songwriting.

To celebrate the words that make up our favorite pop songs, we'll be rating EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. The dictionary we'll be using to rate the words will be "Webster's Seventh New Collegiate dictionary" & can be be found here: https://archive.org/stream/webstersseventhn00unse/webstersseventhn00unse_djvu.txt

Slay a bit words :-D

DUE DATE: March 15, 2018 (aka "National Word Day")

Rules: Rate every word from 1-10. Decimals are allowed since there are so many words. Also, only one word can get your 11.

Are we supposed to rate every word in the dictionary?

These words are good:

lodged - this word gets lodged in your mouth pronouncing it

asunder - a perfectly balanced word

lighthearted - such a light and heartening word <3

silhouette - most words that end with the emphasis on the last syllable don't interest me, but this... si-looowww----ette

Mississippi - a heavy word, feels great saying this word, as if invoking a spirit

and one of my favorites, appearing in many songs: darling

i don't think kavish is in the Webster's Seventh New Collegiate dictionary but if he was, that would be his score.

Ugly Word of the day: honk (2/10)

pretty word of the day: Diaphanous (10/10)

Diaphanous sounds like it could mean something repugnant and its actual meaning doesn't reflect the word.

I give it a 4 for the beautiful pronunciation though.
