It's to emulate passion votes. It helps films with a small but passionate fanbase get nominated.

ATRL voted for Casey Affleck last year? :skull:  That depressing ass movie, many people probably just googled Oscar predictions and voted based off that :eli:

Time for Lady Bird's revenge.

You said this about Amy Adams last year and she didn't even get into the top 3 of her category.

See, only having 3 slots is making me snub my longshot choices in favor of films that actually stand a chance of being nominated. Putting Wind River or Colossal in Original Screenplay is basically wasting a valuable slot on my ballot. :rip:

I’m looking at the nominees from last year, and I’m pretty sure we just voted on the things that the Oscars nominated. They appear to be the same nominees in every single category. :rip:

I'll do a FYC soon. I am very excited I just hope people don't try to predict the real Oscars and just vote for their actual favorites.

The nomination ballots are not preferential so do not rank them

Why not?

If they're that much of a longshot then they were probably never going to be nominated either way. Something like Wonder Woman/Jessica Chastain/Greta Gerwig would benefit from this, and "likable yet filler" slot films like The Post wouldn't take their spot.

Write-ins were allowed, but yeah none of the write-ins won or got close to winning. They just didn't have enough support on ATRL either.
