No nas album has impressed me as much as Illmatic.

What I like about Kanye is that at a point in his career, maybe Graduation era, maybe after, he basically transcended hip hop and started making... this probably isn't the right word, but art. To say nothing of its quality (which is very good), he did something totally unexpected no that no other rapper did as well as him before or after.

As I said before, mos def was one of the first hip hop artists to be experimental with his work. None of kanyes albums IMO have touched black on both sides.
And Kanye will never make an album like Illmatic. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a fantastic album, but it's not going to be as definitive years down the line as Reasonable Doubt nor Illmatic. Those are what you call hip hop classics.
