What promo has to do with perception of her as an artist/her music?
Lana'sMetacritic score is 61(Generally favorable reviews) compared to Katy's 52 and Paris's 56 so how's that between?
And most of those reviews are biased and based on her persona/SNL/dad and other nonsense anyways.

And her music isn't dance pop, electro pop, etc. her music is Alternative.

Why would Lana be smashing? Especially in this day in age? Her type of music has never been popular, she doesn't have nothing similar to Adele beside both albums being full of ballads, Lana is doing way better than someone like her is supposed to do. And Robyn has performed in the VMAs, Ellen, David Letterman, and SNL too. As for M.I.A, I don't recall seeing her performing on a TV show besides Super Bowl

But you're right, Nicole, M.I.A. and Robyn were dumb choices on my part to compare Lana, as they're both still in the pop/dance/electro lane. Lykke Li and Sia are more comparable, really. The kind of weird singer-songwriter who doesn't particularly care about serving a "perfect" image, and is in the pop side of things more for their fans than for attracting massive buzz. Lana was just the one lucky enough to get some promo. I think Interscope hoped she could be a big pop girl when it was insanely obvious to me from the get go that she's not that kind of person. The kind of girl who takes inspiration from LOLITA for her songwriting is not going to want to be some big pop star.

Your argument remains flawed. You were making fun of Madonna because she was "old", yet you basically stan for Elton John over here, who's more than 10 years older than her.
