Tickets For "Dreamgirls" Will Cost $25 For First Ten Days
New Yorkers should brace themselves because a single ticket to the anticipated film “Dreamgirls,” which opens December 10, will cost $25 for the first ten days it shows in theaters.
“Dreamgirls” is the film version of the 1981 Broadway musical about a singing group resembling the Supremes. It stars Beyoncé Knowles, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy.
The opening run is only available in a few theaters including the Ziegfeld in Manhattan, and single theaters in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Along with your seat, the ticket will get you a 50-page color souvenir program, and access to a lobby exhibition of costume and set designs.
I've got a feeling that this movie is going to be a big disappointment. The hype is just way tooo much.

Are you kidding? $25 per ticket?!
I know the movie's gonna be big, but that's a bit much! Why not make it $10-$12 per ticket? That's more understandable.

I don't know if anyone read it, but it's not that unreasonable. It will only be available in like 3 theaters, they recieve a 50-page program, and get to see all the costumes and props. I would pay $25 to get all of that.

Its a special. The movie is not just Beyonce..she isnt even the star. The star is Jennifer Hudson. The movie hasnt had a bad review from the critics from the screening. Expect the show to sell out the 1st 10 days.

That's actually a pretty good move. If it's only playing in those venues, people will definitely see the film for that amount of money.

Tickets here in Dubai are around 6.8 - 8.2 USD.
So 10 -12 is also pretty high price. Especially that we are the ones who import movies from the U.S .
But as Justin said ,if it's restricted to particular venus , the double price is pretty expected. But the question is: WILL THEY GO FOR IT?

It's an interesting idea... to have a kind of exhibition about a film available. If it's popular, they may have to go on 'tour' with it so that fans in many places can see the items etc or use different locations for it with different movies.
I'm glad it's not just $25 for the movie in general though, that might have opened the industry up to charging a different rate per movie depending on how popular they expect it to be. If that was the case can you image how much a film like Star Wars or the LOTR trilogy would have cost?
But anyway - at least you guys pay in dollars! Here they don't even bother to change things according to the exchange rate - we just have to pay the same amount but in pounds, e.g. an item from the US costs $30 in the US, it will cost £30 here (more or less) instead of the exchange rate plus tax. People may hate us for loving the fact that we get good currency for holidays but it's the main concession we've got because it costs so much here.

Is this only in New York? I can't see them making it a standard 25 dollars everywhere -- then no one will see it...
