Frank Ocean made his Saturday Night Live debut on the September 15 season premiere with two knockout performances. His first song was his now-staple “Thinkin’ Bout You,” followed by the second half of “Pyramids” (which we predicted!). For both songs, Ocean was in front of a string of old (but functioning) arcade games, accompanied by John Mayer and a couple other non-John Mayer guitarists, as well as a drummer.
“Thinkin’ Bout You” is not an easy one to sing live, and Ocean seemed a little nervous during the first verse. But honestly, we liked this performance even better than his spare VMA campfire take of the same song. With the guitars whimpering all around him, the performance had more heft and drama.

Frank Ocean continued his hot streak of amazing live television performances with two hot ones as musical guest on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.
Ocean started off his appearance by performing his soulful ballad “Thinkin’ Bout You.” Perched on a stool in the middle of the stage, the singer delivered falsetto goodness on the track. He received a little help from singer/songwriter John Mayer who quietly strummed along on his guitar. Ocean and Mayer would return to the stage later for another SNL performance. This time, they’d perform the second half of the nearly 10-minute long single “Pyramids.”

Frank Ocean takes the stage to perform “Thinking About You”. He has old-school arcade games onstage as set dressing, which automatically makes this the greatest performance in “SNL” history. (They are generic arcade consoles, ostensibly due to prohibitively expensive costs to use “Millipede”.) Given how many artists give frenetic-bordering-on-spastic performances in order to sell themselves to the large “SNL” audience at home, Ocean is content to sit on a stool center stage and let the audience lean in. The spare guitar line that opens the song gives way to a more expansive, haunting arrangement as the song progresses. Ocean’s falsetto is packed with emotion as the song ends. Really strong performance by Ocean. [Grade: A-]
On cue, Frank Ocean reappears to perform “Pyramids”. Imagery of Cleopatra meld into a modern-day setting filled with drugs, depression, and a crazy soundscape that feels almost interplanetary. Halfway through, John Mayer plays a guitar solo as Frank Ocean plays “Donkey Kong”. I know I’m getting a little old to be up this late recapping “SNL”, but it’s probably too early to start hallucinating during these. What? That actually happened? Oh, whew. [Grade: B]

It was none other thank "Thinking About You," which was the same track that he performed while on the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this year. It was a soft, moving performance as Ocean sat down at the center of the stage accompanied by a small band.

The episode’s musical act, R&B singer Frank Ocean, provided highlights with his powerful, soulful falsetto, performing “Thinkin Bout You” and “Pyramids.” He also brought along a special guest – John Mayer on guitar. Ocean sang amid blue light, surrounded on-stage by arcade games. And when he was done singing on “Pyramids,” he stepped to one of the games and started toying with the joystick as Mayer plucked away. At the end of the song, Ocean turned to the camera and smirked.

No one supports him because he is openly gay and black. People support him because he makes great music.
He probably has fans now who didn't know who he was before he came out, but they wouldn't buy his albums or singles if they didn't like the music.

Exactly.
I am so tired of people acting like people go out and buy someone's album because of their sexuality.
And people need to keep in mind that Frank has NEVER labeled his sexuality so...
Anyway, posted updated.

True, he never labeled his sexuality. He simply said - when he was 19 he fell in love with a man, and he realized what he felt for women before was not real love, that he was his FIRST love. He said everything with just few words. And the word "gay" became too disgusting, anyway. There should be some new word for same-sex love and sexuality.
Maybe it's time to stop speaking of him and mentioning his sexuality. He is great musician. One of the best today. Isn't it enough?

Well the media and people who think that's the only reason his album are doing well are the only ones who really bring it up. All Frank did was post the letter and tell his truth, he discussed it in a round about way with The Guardian but that interview wasn't about his sexuality, it was about him as a person and artist, I think Frank is bisexual but really who cares, his music gives me life and he is talented, that's all that matters.

True, his success has nothing to do with his sexuality. It did made people get interested more in him, maybe, but that cannot make them buy his music. I have his CD as I love his music, and because I got interested in him after his letter, I make some other CRAZY things, like asking a few astrologers to look at his natal chart, for example
But it is not intelligent to think people buy his music because he is black and gay. He is a brilliant musician, that's all. Plus, he is so charismatic.

Hmm. Once again I think da majority of us who have been posting in his thread fell in love with Frank way before his announcement. I kno dat I'm so happy he's gettin noticed and finally makin it. Him liking a man opened da door to a new fan base, but it's his talent for music which will keep people wanting more.
Like I said months ago, it sucks dat I'm gay and I love Frank, cuz now dat he's gay, bi, whatever, my appreciation for his music is one sided ... Oh he gay and u gay dats y u like him. Nope so not it.
TBY. Much better this time. From start to finish he owned this performance. Falsetto on point.
P. omg I felt like a school girl. He exuded confidence. Loved his total freedom in his performance. He felt his song and went with it.
That gif I have been waiting for since I saw his performance. He let loose and gave me life.

I was floored by his performance last night. I fell asleep during the first part of the show, but was legit woken up during him singing "Thinking About You."

Exactly. Tired of dumbasses saying that.
What does his sexuality have to do with anything?
Because I don't see any other LGBT artist doing what Frank is doing right now. His music speaks for itself and that is why people love him.
