Anyone who has been in the iTunes thread over the past week has seen the curious case of Home, by Philip Phillips. It went to number one immediately after his coronation, but fell like all Idol winner songs. It was selected as the theme to women's gymnastics, though, and really hasn't left the top ten over the past fortnight - it's number one right now. Because of this, it's getting a second wind at radio.
This takes me back to the summer of 2008, where thanks to it's selection in the Pineapple Express trailers, Paper Planes launched onto iTunes and then radio.
Do you have any favorite instances of iTunes FORCING radio to play songs?
Blah Blah Blah became K$'s second single largely because of iTunes. It went #1 on the iTunes charts for three days without any promotion at all when Animal was released. Radio began playing it as if it was her second single, and RCA was essentially forced to make it official.
