Sometimes I feel guilty for doing this, but in many cases I actually cheer against my own country (the US) during the Olympics. I don't actively choose to do this; I just naturally tend to cheer for an underdog and I love seeing athletes from other countries who are perhaps less privileged or well-known make a statement. Sometimes I just dislike certain US athletes, just as I dislike certain athletes from other countries.

So, when watching the Olympics, do you always cheer for your own country?

And when I say your "own" country, I know that is a loose term that can mean many different things for different people: country of citizenship, country of birth, ethnicity, etc. I'll leave it up to you to decide what you consider to be your "own" country and how you want to vote.

I cheer for the US all of the time.(except when Tom Daley is involved )
He's only involved in diving though so yes I do cheer for my home country 99% of the time.
I actually get really excited/intense when watching the Olympics. Especially during swimming. I got so mad when France beat the US by so little in the four way relay.

No, I don't really cheer for anyone. I just enjoy watching the amazing athletes.

It's so refreshing to see sports that aren't really talked about much as or seen on tv as much as the popular ones here in the US, which is why I love the Olympics so much.

For team/multi-athlete events, I almost always cheer for Team USA, unless I really fall in love with another team. But for individual events I really like to pick and choose which athletes I cheer for and find out what they're like as a person. For example, I'm not really here for Phelps or Lochte because I find both of them pretty cocky I also love seeing seeing world class athletes in lesser known and less popular sports just dominate that sport (like table tennis or archery). There was this one woman from China (Wang Mingjuan) who won the gold in women's weightlifting and she just had so much composure and an effortless swag about and just destroyed the competition. Great athletes and great people come in many forms.

Both of my parents are Jamaican so I root for Jamaica in track and Atkinson in Swimming. I basically root for USA and Jamaica and sometimes China if the competitor slays me.

During the Winter games, its Canada all the way.

But during the summer games, I have a tendency to root for Australia as well.

Sometimes I'll even just root for whoever is against the US.

Yes, I'll always vote for America, unless it's Lochte because he's stupid. I mean partying till 2 am when you have two events the next day?

Also, Jiang Yuyuan didn't make the China gymnastics team and Nastia Liukin didn't make the US team ( If she did I would have wanted the others to lose at the all around. So I vote for everyone in the US But I felt so bad for Jordyn Weiber, she deserved it more than Aly!

I usually cheer for my own country, especially in sports that I don't follow outside of the Olympics. But sometimes there are exceptions.
