[Mr. Know It All]

As I watch the Opening Ceremony to the London Olympic Games, I constantly hear that nations X, Y, and Z have yet to earn any medals. Ever. In all their histories. While not terribly surprising given the size of some countries, the thought is still rather peculiar to me, as the United States always performs well—not only in the Olympics but truly at everything its people dedicate themselves.

At any rate, this led me to a related thought: "How do other countries view the USA?"

As an "insider", if you will, I rarely hear outside opinions of the United States—save for a few news stories and my best guess—and, because Americans are invariably patriotic, it's rare to hear a negative word here. So I ask, what is the general opinion of the United States in your country? Does the USA appear as some "Big Brother"? Protector? Menace? Friend? Is American involvement elsewhere in the world viewed negatively? Positively?

Please begin each post with your country and proceed to summarize the general opinions regarding the United States from your nation's view. I'd very much like to hear what the world itself thinks.

Also, please, no bigoted rants. Nobody wants to hear that.

I love living here and wouldn't trade it for anything else.I know Americans come off as uneducated and lazy,but being in America is an experience like no other.

There's good things that come out of the US,and there's terrible things that come out of the US.

Well I live in the US I kind of get the feeling that if I was not an American I would have a not so nice view of us. But I am, so I'll have a positive outlook because I think you should stick by what you are I was born and raised in America, it's my home, so I will be patriotic.

Interesting. The US-South America relationship was very much Big-Brother-like for the majority of the nineteenth (especially) and twentieth centuries, so I understand the dissent. The uneducated remark rather escapes me, though.

I think the USA could be a nice country to live in. However, I think majority of Americans are uneducated and annoying. I'm not going to generalize, because ofcourse, there's loads of nice Americans who aren't as ignorant as others. However, that's just my view of Americans. I think Americans are very isolated and don't know anything about the world. The ignorance that is spewed on news articles and YouTube videos prove it. I think Americans should look further than their own borders. Also, I think it's funny how America is the land of the free & liberal, when gay marriage isn't even legalized and homophobia and bullying are huge problems.

Easy access to . . . ? Do you mean individuals in the nation access x, y, and z easily? Or that the country itself can maneuver throughout the world without much backlash? Please elaborate.

Gay marriage is a state issue, not Federal. Some states have legalized it, and accept it.

Yeah, I bit, but I think the relationship with Brazil was a bit better than most of the countries around here had with the US.

This. I don't care if China is coming for its wig, but what the US has done is pretty impressive. It's a big country, but not overpopulated. They are such smart asses.
