Katy's concert movie won't break even from box-office
Paramount just announced
Production budget : $12M
Marketing budget: $ 18M
Total budget = $30M
Which means the movie needs at least $60M - $75M to break even.
It won't gain any profit from box-office alone.
Also struggling is the $12M low budget Katy Perryís Part Of Me which will do around $3M Friday and just $11.8M for its first 4 days in release...... Earth to Hollywood: no one cares about Katy beyond a handful of tween/teen girls. Not even Russell Brand anymore.
For those who are dreaming a $20M for four days...... it's not even reaching $12M.
Which means Jonas Brothers out did her in less days and less theaters.....
Jonas Brothers:The 3D Concert Experience Opening Weekend: $12,510,374
(#2 rank, 1,271 theaters, $9,843 average)
Katy Perry:Part of Me Opening Weekend: $8,700,000
(#7 rank, 2,730 theaters, $3,168 average)
Opening today was Paramountís concert movie Katy Perry: Part of Me (2,730 theaters) produced under the Insurge label at a cost of just $12M. The studio was expecting $3M to $4M today headed to the low- to mid-teens for the weekend, consistent with tracking projection. Sources tell me that the film performed on the low end of expectations today ó $3M ó but should gross its budget over the next 4 days of release. Audiences gave it an ĎAí CinemaScore so great word of mouth may help widen the appeal beyond tween/teen girls. ďIíll admit Justin Bieberís fans are fanatical and rushed out opening day. But this movie should have much longer and better legs,Ē a Paramount exec tells me. On Tuesday the pic sneaked with $200K from the 100 screens and just 2 showtimes it screened.
The opening is very weak in comparison to Jonas Brothers's $4.9M and JB's $12M starts, though, considering it is low budget, the number is acceptable.
