"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained." -Marie Curie
"I am among those who think that science has great beauty. A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician: he is also a child placed before natural phenomena which impress him like a fairy tale." - Marie Curie (because I love science )
"It's never too late to be who you might have been." - George Eliot
"Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end." - Paolo Coelho
"You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason."
Volunteer, travel, stay here, graffiti, take photographs of people on the metro, blog, go to conventions, meet people, go look at art, change the minds of people around me, read books, read more books, recycle, visit my aunt, garden, fly across the country, work for free, work for cash, learn pottery, teach myself other languages, share a flat with a friend, go to midnight premieres, meet scientists, listen to them talk, make friends with people I meet at places I like going, spend enormous amounts of time in book stores, teach myself to cook (well), knit scarves, go to museums, go to the park, document things I find, start collections…
“Be Fearless. If you make only one resolution this year, let it be to live boldly. You control this moment: rather than cautiously test the water, dive straight into life with freeing abandon. Imagine the person you want to be and the life you want to live, then simply commit to them. Believe in yourself. Embrace your beauty. Discover a new passion.”
- Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
"There came to that room wild streams of violet midnight glittering with dust of gold, vortices of dust and fire, swirling out of the ultimate spaces and heavy perfumes from beyond the worlds. Opiate oceans poured there, litten by suns that the eye may never behold and having in their whirlpools strange dolphins and sea-nymphs of unrememberable depths. Noiseless infinity eddied around the dreamer and wafted him away without touching the body that leaned stiffly from the lonely window; and for days not counted in men’s calandars the tides of far spheres that bore him gently to join the course of other cycles that tenderly left him sleeping on a green sunrise shore, a green shore fragrant with lotus blossums and starred by red camalates…"
And I remember when I met him, it was so clear that he was the only one for me. We both knew it, right away. And as the years went on, things got more difficult, we were faced with more challenges. I begged him to stay. Try to remember what we had at the beginning. He was charismatic, magnetic, electric, and everybody knew it. When he walked in, every woman’s head turned, everyone stood up to talk to him. He was like this hybrid; this mix of a man who couldn’t contain himself. I always got the sense that he became torn between being a good person and missing out on all of the opportunities that life could offer a man as magnificent as him. And in that way I… understood him. And I loved him… I loved him, I loved him, I loved him.
"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life."
— John Lennon
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
— Dr. Seuss
I don't know if this quote is copied exactly correctly, but I find the bolded part especially interesting to contemplate:
Hello. My name is Stephen Hawking, physicist, cosmologist, and something of a dreamer. Although I cannot move, and I have to speak through a computer, in my mind, I am free; free to explore the universe and ask the big questions.
"This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends -they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything -they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them -actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up becuase if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about."
